Which one is better? Cone with higher flow but suck hot air in engine bay or Drop in with lower flow but suck outside air?
Also a few people have some driveability issue with cone.

cone is better support for higher modification.
The drop in will serve you in low or even mid level modifications.
Untill you get at least the mid level i would recommend the drop in. /HKS for $40/
Then when you get more stuff and ready for tune ,then you can get a cone set up.
This way you will be safe for sure.

Right now i think they are having problems with cone regarding turbulance. With regards to drop in filter you can still highly modified your car even it is just a drop in. one example Mines white r34 have a stock airbox and that's a highly modified car. i'll go drop in but use an aftermarket drop in filter. i like it because it sucks the cold air outside.

mines with drop in...

i didn't say it wont, but the cone is better support for sure in high modification. And actually you will get the point where the dropp in just cant keep up with the demand for incoming air... :)

if i'm going to use cone i'll make sure not a short ram but CAI.

on the evo i would use a short ram. CAI has its own huge problem. sucks up everything , even water.
check out my ex intake set up. It is short ram in the box , and outside support hoses attached to it. But even, if you dont do that, the short ram will be more then enough. The CAI doesn't worth the risk. CAI good for non turbo cars where is a waaay less suction .
And basically that is the place where they using them.

Is the HKS filter servicable or do you have to replace it everytime you replace a normal filter. Im use to using K&N stuff on all my other cars, but the EVO people dont seem very high on K&N.

The HKS filter is a replacement element.

The super megaflow housing opens by removing the top bolt and taking the cage off. Then the old element is taken out and thrown away. The new element is put in and the cage is bolted back on. Simple. 1, 2, 3.

I use the HKS intake on my car, exclusively.

Go to google, image search and enter 'Mitsubishi Evolution 8'

The first two pictures are of my car.

Found HKS filter for $32 also. I know HKS site says $40. I ordered it while I wait for more stuff to come out for the X. It advertises increase a increase of 12hp, which I feel is more inline with what a drop in should do. That sounds realistic at least. I just cant believe 27hp gain with just a drop in sounds right I dont car how RICH the car runs. I looked at tons of other car claim on gains of horse power with drop-ins I never saw anything over 17hp.

Hope I dont get in trouble. Im not pushing any company. I just found a good price on something I think alot of people would want. I know if someone else found a good price they would help a fellow evo person out. My business is far from dealing with cars lol.
