MODEST MOUSE ISN'T EMO!!

carry on :P

edit: you can check my statistics at http://www.last.fm/user/clauretano/

is Modest Mouse #1? (I can't get to last.fm from work) it sucks because those numbers don't factor in the stuff I listen to in the car or any other time I'm listening to just a pure audio cd somewhere that isn't on one of my laptops.

And so so is better than shitty, so I will take it! (plus, we all have different tastes, I mean some people actually listen to country!)

and i know many potheads that love sublime i was just saying that i partake upon the herbals and i like, love sublime along with many other bands

I'm commenting on your apparent need to be stereotypical. You mention Sublime then immediately announce that you smoke marijuana. Where was the need for that? I mean, I could write something like...

"THE EAGLES
THE EAGLES
THE EAGLES

Yes, I wear flannel, so...ugh...alternates go as follows: Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jethro Tull, and Bruce Springsteen. Hmmm, there are others, too, we should have a regular discussion about this. Oh, and check out Fleetwood Mac. They're a country-based rock band with some great tracks out there."

So, yeah, cool. You smoke weed. You've got that going for you. But don't be surprised when people notice you trying to live a stereotype.

Also, to keep on topic, SATimko, because I love this thread and seeing what people have to say. My current modern favorites are:

My Chemical Romance
Over the Rhine
OK Go.

My Chem just released a new album which is a big departure from their old stuff. It's more upbeat, kind of punky, and really fun to drive to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egG7fiE89IU

Over the Rhine is a husband and wife duet based out of Cincinnati. They play a lot of acoustic music accompanied by piano. Some of their stuff is kind of folky, but otherwise really poignant and borderline melancholy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR6NmIWJJ2U

OK Go, well, yeah. You should know these guys. An uber-creative pop-alt-indie outfit if there ever was one. Their music is as entertaining as their music videos, with their lyrics providing wordplay that rivals the originality they show when performing.

And... back on topic. The most recent 2 singles from My Chem have been a let down for me. & they've always been "punky." They do a great live show too. Not my favorite, but their music transfers over well & they have a good stage presence.

I've had several stoner friends in the past who liked Sublime as well. They were also big 311 fans. But me no rikey Sublime. :/ The short guy from 311 is awesome live. He really gets into it.

"Na Na Na" makes me so happy. "Sing" is okay, but there are better songs they could've released. On a related note, the album is based off of Gerard Way's (lead singer's) Eisner Award winning comic book series The Umbrella Academy. As for "punky," yeah, they've always been heavy on palm muting and power chords, but I always felt they were more "emo" than punk. This new album changes that. You're right though, Kidney, on stage they rock. Especially when they toured with The Used.

kidneythief13
12-03-2010, 02:49 AM
I don't like the Used. I tried to force myself once, but it didn't work. I never considered them (My Chem) emo. I always think of Death Cab For Cutie when I think of emo, but then again that's just my take on things. I saw them in Reno a couple years ago with Underoath (barf), Taking Back Sunday (massive barf), & Rise Against (win). I was right near the barricade & they did a large set. Basically the entire Black Parade & Three Cheers albums. They fall 3rd on my list of best concerts I've been to that I can vividly remember.

I almost got crushed to death at Warped Tour 2004 (maybe 05, can't remember) when I saw them the first time. Mikey Way comes out blasting the national anthem Hendrix style and everybody surges forward. I was still in wrestling shape then so I weighed like 125 pounds. I had my buddy throw me up onto the crowd so I could get air, lol. I don't like The Used, either, but they toured together and I wanted to see them with a longer set.

I never saw them do any Black Parade stuff live, which I regret. I heard it was badass.

Best concert I've ever been to, though, was The Eagles in November of 2008. Hands down most awesome experience. My mother bought my roommates and I tickets, as well as a ticket for my father as an "adoption day" present (I'm adopted so we always do a little dinner or something, but that was a special year, obviously). My dad and I both love The Eagles so when they played "Desperado" at the end it was a great moment. Plus having my best friends there...

Another great concert is The Rolling Stones, even though they're old. They still rock out.

kidneythief13
12-03-2010, 03:11 AM
That reminds me, the "singer" for Taking Back Sunday kept strutting around on stage, as though he was Mick Jagger. It made their set just that much worse. My BF still does impressions of him & it brings me right back to that horrible few song set.

Concerts I've seen:

When I was 10 or 11: Third Eye Blind + Vertical Horizon + Nine Days. I unfortunately only remember Stephan Jenkins running around the large arena w/ his top hat & that's it. :(

When I was 12: Aerosmith + Fuel (weird combo). I basically remember Joe Perry soloing, Steven Tyler flying around on some odd scarf rope/swing, & the lead singer of Fuel cussing at the crowd to stand up.

Then nothing for quite a while, until I saw 311 in 2005. I got a bit bored & walked away even though I was near the front. I did really like the rapper guy. He got completely soaked in sweat & turned red because of his intensity.

In 2006 I saw Tech9ne + DMX + Bone Thugs. Decent show, but security was stupid & so were many of the people there. Tickets were cheap.

In 2007 was the My Chem concert. I was also suppose to see Tool, but I think the drummer broke his arm or something like that.

2008 was NIN. Awesome show (2nd favorite), but there was a snow storm between Portland & here, so all of their gimmicky items didn't make it. Meaning no massive screen, which I was extremely excited to see. I was front & center, but was smashed by the people around me. Big NIN fan though.

January 2010 was AFI + Ceremony. The best show I have seen. Small venue, no gimmicks, but amazing. I was front & center for this as well.

May 2010 was Powerman 5000 + something like 4 opening acts. Some entertaining gimmicks, decent show, but sounded good live. I got fairly drunk too.

That's a pretty good list. I saw Aerosmith in the summer of 2009, ZZ Top opened, which was sweet. I saw the Offspring in 2005, it was like 95 degrees out and we were on blacktop so it was like an oven effect. The lead singer brought a fire house out and shot water into the air so it'd rain on us. It was pretty cool.

Last summer I went to the Brooks and Dunn farewell tour. One thing I've gotta say about country concerts, they're always entertaining, especially when there's a jack Daniels booth selling shots...made for some really funny drunk people.

LOL. I'd probably get pissed really quickly in that situation. 1- Drunk people that I don't know & that are stupid make me angry & 2- I wouldn't know how someone was able to convince me to go to a country concert in the first place. :p

First off, stop with the incredibly OT disgruntled comments. Eyler stopped, you should as well. I hate handing infractions out & don't want to be forced to if this continues & verbal attacks are made.

Secondly, I used to like My Chem a lot more than I do now. If you actually do really like The Used, how can you talk shit about My Chemical Romance? Lyrically & musically My Chem is by far the superior band. I could write the lyrics for The Used. At least based on the songs I have forced myself to listen to. :( I could see the vocal arguments for & against both sides, but the singer for The Used can get even whinier than Gerard & that is typically what many people would argue to be ever so eloquently put as "gay."

Incubus is great though! I liked them more in the past as well. I think S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is probably my favorite album from them. Anthony Kiedis doesn't make sense in half of his songs, but I do like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Flea FTW!

I'm not a typical consumer of music, in that I don't care much about bands. I listen to top 40 and my favorite kind of music is club dance mixes.

I get hooked on individual songs and play them over and over at times. The last one that really caught my fancy was Ride to California by Paper Tongues.

lol seriously its been so long since ive heard anyone speak of my chemical romance that on this particular evening i had them confused with PANIC! at the disco(felt really stupid and high afterward)...i had stopped, i said what i needed to say...but also dont think its right to stoner bash. i suppose it isnt right to gay/english teacher bash either and to be completely childish "HE STARTED IT" def. off topic and i truly am sorry but a large part of the threads on this site are misplaced and off topic. oh well i apologize to all that read that nonsense and i will behave from now on
