: Wheel spacers

Anyone know if I can use wheel spacers for some rims that are 19x8.5 with a +45 offset? Would that work or would that be unsafe.

Caliper clearance would be reduced by 7 mm from stock, go measure how close the stock spokes are from your calipers right now and if it's less than 1cm it would not be safe to run the +45. Also the outer rim would shrink inside the wheelwell 7 mm.

If I used some quality 5mm spacers and everything cleared ok, would that be safe? I am pretty sure w/o the spacers the rim will not clear the brakes in the front nor would I like to see them sitting so far in the wheel well with 7mm gap? anyway, what do you think about the spacer?

yea these are wheels that I had on my old car, I really like the way they look and would like to hold on to them, I would take a hit too if i tried to sell them. Really just trying to see what the options are first.

I personally dislike spacers, there are some inherent safety concerns involved in trying to make something fit that wasn't designed to.
However they would work. :)

I have no exp. with them thats why I wanted to get some opinions first. Thanks:thumbup:

What are some of the concerns I would be looking at if spacers were used. I'd like to know so I can better weigh the risk vs. gain. Thanks again.

I run spacers on my X at the track. No inherent problems at all.

At first, I shared the same concerns as you did and was always hesitant to run spacers...

For my track wheels however, I really wanted to roll with the Enkei NT0-3s, and the only way to do so with the setup I had was to use spacers...

First with my 27mm offset 18x9.5 Enkeis, I used a 12mm spacer up front. Since then, I am now running 40mm offset all around, and I run a 25mm spacer up front to clear the calipers. With everything torqued properly, I have no issues. Robi from Robispec has been running this 25mm spacer setup since the beginning of time and he has no problems with it either.

Keep in mind my car is tracked monthly with no adverse effects with the spacers. They do look pretty scary at first, but I havent had any issues.

That is good to know. Good advice as the spacers have been tested for a decent amount of time. I'm sure your not easy in the turns either so that has some stress added to the wheel spacers. If you haven't had any problems I think I would be fine.

One more question though, what size spacer should I be using and what brand are you using? I def. want to get a quality name brand. 19x8.5 +45

Thanks

I got some 25mm spacers so that my RPF1s would fit. They have a +45 offset. The front was EXTREMELY close. Not only would I recommend measuring them, I'd test fit as well.

Hi, sorry I must have totally missed your question...

Im running some 25mm spacers from Robispec. However, I had some project Kics in the past and they were top notch as well. The Robispec ones are not for the faint at heart. They utilize the stock wheel studs so it may give the perception that the lugs don't have enough thread to grab onto them... I ran these pretty hard at the track, and they held up just fine. Again, they are the same setup that Robispec runs on all his wide track evos with no adverse effects...

Heres a link to the project kics...

:rock:Good stuff man, I appreciate the reply. I emaild Robispec, if that falls through I think I will order the others. I really need to know how/what to measure so that I can get the correct size. Do you know how?

I don't know how to do it myself, but when I had mine measured, they were checking to see how much room you'd have between the spokes on the wheel, and the brake caliper. These brakes are pretty big, so even with a large spacer, you might not clear depending on how concave(?) your spokes are.
