: FRONT brake pad replacement
antics22 05-16-2008, 07:43 PM Okay, so anybody have experience in this? Some vendors are saying that the front pads are IDENTICAL to the IX and the 8's....
Are the X pads same as the 9's?
Is it really identical? or are we just getting by in using 9 pads...
My stockers are almost gone and need replacement fast. If they do indeed use 9 pads, then its FERODO DS2500 for me!!!!
Kooldino 05-16-2008, 07:51 PM Dude, how many miles are on your pads?
I compared the calipers side by side with a IX last weekend, and they appear to be identical, so I guess the pads would be the same as well.
The only difference was the rotors (ours are an inch bigger).

Yeah, I know the calipers are bigger than the IX and so are the rotors, but I keep hearing that the pads are identical! I just wanted to confirm since I dont see it officially from any vendors...
I have 6000 miles on my X now, but my pads are toast from the track events I do. So far I've done 3 events and I have about 5mm left on them pads.
Time for replacements! as far as the rear pads, I did hear that they are different, so it looks like those will have to wait.
thanks for the quick reply Dino!
Kooldino 05-16-2008, 08:02 PM Yeah, I know the calipers are bigger than the IX and so are the rotors,
Like I said, the calipers themselves appear to be the same. I've heard that elsewhere as well. If that's the case, then the pads should be the same too.

Damn! Post video!
antics22 05-16-2008, 08:16 PM I can definitely confirm that the Calipers on the X are bigger than the IX in order to accomodate the bigger rotors... The slot for the brake pads might be the same size though which is why it can accomodate the same pads.... Thats why we cant fit 17" wheels on the X... (not that I would anyways)
In addition, I had to replace the front passenger caliper already under warranty. It had a stripped (leaky) bleeder valve. When I took it off the car, It was DEFINITELY bigger...
Sorry Dino, no videos.. I have no clue about inboard cameras-thing-of-ma-jiggies...
Robevo 05-16-2008, 09:35 PM i try to install my Project MU big brake kit rotors on my X. Good news the rotor is a same size or a little bigger then the factory. Bad news is , it was sitting perfect , but the factory break pads are wider then the Project Mu rotor surface.
So if the factory pads would be smaller with a piece of hair, then the big rotor would fit.
So the answer for you is the X brakes are bigger.
Here is the old set up i tried to put it on without the calipers.

Gates311 05-18-2008, 05:41 PM Yes the pads from an 8/9 will fit in the front of the X. The caliper is much different than the older Evos, but you can still use the the 8/9 pads.
Giro Disc 05-23-2008, 09:02 PM We have a set of our EVO 8/9 Street Pads on our X. They are a direct swap. The caliper body is larger then the 8/9. The rear pads however do not swap and nobody has them to sell yet, but we will be offering a solution to retrofit Evo 8/9 rear pads on the X in the next couple weeks. We'll be getting our prototype samples next week.

Kooldino 05-23-2008, 09:20 PM Thank you!
thegame 09-08-2008, 08:42 PM Resurrecting another old thread... If the VIII / IX pads are the same as the X's fronts, then why isn't the part number the same for the stock Brembo pads?
fatalwishes 09-08-2008, 10:30 PM Umm don't you have to have an adapter? You can use the 9 pads on the X but there is a small thin metal plate adapter to make them fit properly or they will squeal like gut shot pigs.
Talon_66 09-08-2008, 10:56 PM My only question is whether or not an evo 8/9 big brake kit will fit the X?

That would be interesting to know. There are a ton of kits for those.

That's only for the rears from what I understand.
Talon_66 09-09-2008, 08:00 PM This is why I think Big Brake Kits are swappable:
