: Waranty on tranny ?!?
MikeEvoX 03-17-2011, 02:17 AM Hi,
I have a problem with my gsr tranny. I've have a 2008 evo x, 50 000KM. My second, fourth, fifth and reverse gear are notchy ... The second gear don't get in at cold wheather.
I've tried mt-85, aluminium base and underhood bushing, twm short shifter, i have removed the restri tor pill in the slave cylinder... My trouble is still present ...
Is anyone here had this kind of problem and the dealership waranty that ?!?
Thank you .... Sorry for my bad english (im from Quebec, Canada!!)
DarkRider 03-17-2011, 02:22 AM I don't think they'll touch the tranny with a 10 foot pole! They'll accuse you of drag racing and driving like an idiot so they don't have to deal with it. They basically told me that when I asked a few questions about mine with 2500 miles on it.
MikeEvoX 03-17-2011, 02:30 AM The first time i ask them is at 17 000 km ... And told me that my waranty is for 5 years or 100 000km ....
Yesterday they told me that my waranty is void because I didn't buy a oem clutch ...
That's why i'm asking you this question

It sounds like you got your answer. Sorry to hear it man; I would get your transmission checked out by a performance shop to see what needs to be fixed if anything.
To bad you are not near Kaizen tuning ;) but take it to local shop in Canada. Good luck

This sounds like nothing more than a typical GSR transmission. Mine has been notchy since day one. I've run Redline in it and it made a very slight difference, but nothing to brag about. Does the car improve after you've been driving a few miles? These trannys are notchy as hell. Just the nature of the beast. If you are having problems engaging the gear, then there may be something wrong.
MikeEvoX 03-17-2011, 02:46 AM ... I open my tranny last week ... Here's my second gear problem ...

My second gear (the gear upper) is not well used ... My synchro and slider are ok ...

The dealer don't do anything for you ?
blk-majik 03-17-2011, 02:50 AM to help engage 2nd when it's cold, try revving the engine while trying to slide the shifter fork. It'll twist the engine on the mounts a bit and usually helps for me. I usually have to do this if the weather us below 50*f for the first 5-10 mins until the trans warms up.
MikeEvoX 03-17-2011, 02:52 AM Thanks for idea ... I'll try tomorow morning !
MikeEvoX 03-17-2011, 03:00 AM So the waranty is not really better here in Canada vs USA ??
blk-majik 03-17-2011, 03:02 AM you can try telling them that you're not trying to warranty the clutch. tell them you think the problem is with the shifter forks or synchro gears. i doubt it'll get you anywhere, but its worth a shot
lallen3 03-17-2011, 03:04 AM Maybe. But if they know you were in the trans, then you DEFINITELY won't have them warranty anything. I personally didn't see anything wrong in that picture.
blk-majik 03-17-2011, 03:07 AM clutch is a wear item. they can't require you to use the OEM replacement for a wear item for unless they cover the cost of it. using an aftermarket clutch thats similar in spec to the oem one shouldn't void the warranty on the trans.
that's like them voiding your warranty for replacing worn brake pads, or your engine warranty for replacing spark plugs, or suspension for replacing tires, etc etc etc

I agree 100%, but the sneaky fackers seem to get away with it all the freaking time...
