HI Guys

Just joined up! I havent ordered MR yet as I am waiting till the finance contract is up on the Bimmer in Jan 09. Hopefully a few mods by then and will up spec.. then give it to Alan Heaphy to tune :)

Glad to be part of the forum... tripped over this site actually.. devine intervention LOL

on2it

I chose the 5spd manual because of my prefered driving style. I would have chosen the SST if I didnt prefer manuals.

I think all teething issues will be ironed out by the time yours rolls around. It really comes down to what you want from your evox. If you are going to heavily mod it, then you should consider the 5 spd, if your not and perhaps peak at modding it to 360HP then you should keep it..

also note if you are going to use it as a daily driver, some users have reported problems when sitting in hot traffic for extended periods of time.

I was lucky enough to get a GSR 5spd with all the options of an MR except no rockford fosgate system and no SST.

Personally I think the extra $$ is worth the SST, but it really up to your driving preference and your driving goals.. the SST is supposed to be quite flattering/neat to driver for the newbie track driver as well.

Thanks for the info on2it. I do prefer the SST and plan to give the car to Alan Heaphy who prepared the two evo 9s that beat the 335i Bimmers in the recent Bathurst 12 hour. He tweeks the car without breaking it and voiding the Factory Warrenty. - I expect he will take it to 360HP

I will do the occasional tarmac track day as a punter so SST should be ok.- Not too many hot laps allowed!

I will use the paddles in traffic and suspect I will use them more than Auto for a while.

You have a nice machine! Lucky bugger :)

WHAT ISSUES?

Haven't seen or heard any, I've done the best part of 10k on mine no drama's at all. Well one drama, i can't keep the mrs out of my car, she uses half a tank of gas whenever she drives it too!

There are a few beople on here worry about every little noise, half of which is the little back fires in the exhaust.

Nope unfortunatley not. I hadnt heard of about black GSR coming in.. bugger, Im not 'special' anymore ;)

btw. I dynoed at Torque performance the other day and spoke to Robin (the owner).
They havent got any EvoX mods planned because they need hard numbers and more than one to start doing their R&D.. unfortunatley because of this and due to other options being too expensive, Im going to the source and getting wrcdevelopments in Napier to sort me out with a few mods.. incidently they are the only ones I know of that are researching SST mods and some of their results have been posted on that other Evolution forum. SST FQ330

cant wait! I'm hoping for 225kw+ at the wheels after they are done.

on2it
09-12-2008, 11:53 AM
Not too impressed. They also dynoed it in Gravel mode. Didn't find out till I was driving out of the parking lot.
Great new facilities though. (NZ, Auckland Torque Performance)
Tested in 3rd gear, ASC turned off.
Peaked at 229.71 WHP ( nice plateau of power 4500rpm to 7500rpm )
23.1 psi peak tapering off to 11.6psi
Air Temp, R.H 15celsius, 59%
Air Pressure 1020mb
Nm was off the charts (not sure if that was the correct reading)
AFR started at 13 dropped steadly to 10.5Time to start modding.

The only problems I’ve seen on there is paranoia about a few of the noises. The 5mt has way more issues on there.
The only slight issue is if you cruise to a near stop in normal auto mode then floor it you can catch it out. Then there is a slight delay while it finds a lower gear on the same side it has, like 3rd to 1st.
But sports and super sports it changes down early so it is less noticeable. In manual there is no issue if you change down like any other manual.
I wouldn’t hesitate buying another’s SST for a daily driver. But if you want to track an SST you really need a bigger oil cooler it sounds like

hey apprently there was a recent review that said that the EvoX SST was better than the GTR transmission.. I dont think you'll go wrong... the SST just needs a bit more R&D time in the market.. right now the 5spd Mt has had the headstart thats all.

Alan Heaphys well known in the rally scene.. Do you know if he has had a few evo X's through his door yet? ( I wouldn't be suprised if theyre actually in the middle of prepping an X seeing as the 9's are meant to be phased out shortly).

Last I heard Alan had the Black Motor Show car to pieces a few times and was waiting on Mitsu to give him 'access' to the ECUs. He was working on that and then the exhaust and I understand he was doing a mod that Mitsu would keep the warrenty intact. Rumour was a 330HP SST and 360HP in the Manual but I dont really know. AUD5,000 for the pipe and reflash

Will make some enquiries and get back to you with where he is at

on2it
09-16-2008, 10:41 PM
5K sounds about right for flash and piping. yes wrcdevelopments have done the same for the FQ330 (SST/5spdMT) and FQ360 ( 5spdMTonly) for similar pricing.

There hasnt been a delivery of production cars in Australia yet. But Alan is working on the pre production car and should have a package out by December!

I have made some equiries of a well connected Industry source(Non Mistsu) and he says most of the so called issues with the SST is people looking for commies under the bed :)

sinktheboat
09-17-2008, 10:12 PM
its actually funny when you wind the window down most the noises you hear are muffled backfires fighting there way through the exhaust system not the g/box some are it grabing gears though.
One thing is very sure, Mitsu wouldn't release the SST if the weren't 100% sure it was good, imagine how many they would have to replace.

SST 270KW upgrade October aprox AUD6-7K - Picked up by Mistsu Service computers and affects drive train warrenty

ECUs,Pipe and some other SST stuff I didnt understand :)

Alan said main difference is at the top end of the rev range and speed

He also talked me through the Launch control and if you do it on a track day its ok.. do it often then it will 'fault' and shut down till cool off.

He said the so called turning ASC off isnt true hold the button down for 3 seconds and a car with 2 skid marks diplays then hold brake and Accelerator flat to the floor then just let the brake off and way you go.

he also said that on the track it should be driven with the stick or paddles as in 'auto' it has been known to over heat.

Have you got an insurance registrar list over in Aus?

We have several lists here that usually dictate how much risk the car is.

currently the bmw 3 series is 2nd on the most stolen car list.. according to AA Insurance... my evo X insurance premiums are therefore lower than that.. mind you the earlier evos 1-6 are high up on the list although out of the top 10.. sitting at number 1 is the Nissan Silvia.

Which BMW were you looking to compare?

SO won the battle with the misses and going for GSR with SST, ALan Heaphy reflash, mufflers and tri rate springs.

245KW and a water spray intercooler that works! So no heated leather seats, SAT NAV or rockford system.

But save some money and some weight! $64400 RRP The upgrades will cost AUD4K all up

Good call, what colour. You should drive a SST before you buy it, they are great but can be a pain at intersections in Auto. I alway change down manually comming into round abouts. If you coast into it in normal auto it will still be in 5th when you nail it for the gap and bog down while it finds 1st on the same clutch.

What wheels does the GSR have over there, the BBS?

I am driving both the 5MT and SST 245KW in the next 3 weeks and will make sure I slow mo it in normal traffic situations to see if I can live with the peculiarities of the SST.

The GSR comes with Enkei wheels.( want black annodised it I can get them) The MR has the BBS.wheels. I am looking at Black or White car colour. You can buy the so called performance pack for $5500. Wheels, springs and Bilstein dampers. Not having a water spray intercooler sucks in the MR( something to do with the light and washer set up) so I will spec up the GSR. I would rather spend $4k on horsepower, Mufflers and TMR springs than cosmetic performance goodies.

I am gunna ask for a price on the Rockford and leather Ricaro's though! no seat heating required!

Thanks for the tips STB

You get a list of what parts are effected by the upgrade and hence Warrenty question. But given it is Team Mitsubishi Ralliart they know what is suspect driving and what is genuine warrenty. They DO take note of who is who on track and driver days! I am iching to drive the 270KW 5MT in the next two weeks! Now I gotta learn to Launch without frying the clutch!

10-20-2008, 08:03 PM
SST once moving is relentless when driving it hard, you could NEVER drive a 5mt near hard with the factory gbox.
You’re nailed to the seat the whole time even in gear changes, down shifts aren’t as good as up. It almost coasts for a split second when engine braking through down shifts but then again so does a manual I guess.
You will know as soon as you drive both, I know after driving all night in my EVO 9 jumping straight in my new Evo 10 and driving hm, I knew straight away the SST was awesome on the open roads and I’d never buy anything other than twin clutch again. As I said my only issue is around-abouts which I have sorted, mostly!

HP easily to get.

DUNDEE
10-20-2008, 10:35 PM
Thanks for your experiences STB..I am driving both one straight after the other so I am hopong the SST with more power feels good. I have driven a Standard SST

The 5MT is 270KW. They are not game to do that to a SST yet. Not so much that the box wont hadle it, more how they deal with heating issues right now and that it WILL definatly void warrenty on the box. They are working on a oil cooling solution but is not ready yet.

5MT the clutch is not a warrenty item any way!

Bboy NO Mitsubishi dealers dont do the work. It's done by TMR a joint venture with Mitsubishi and Alan Heaphy, a well known motor sport engineer both in rally and tarmac. He is known for getting horsepower into the wheels without tuning the thing with in an inch of its life.. very reliable and robust tunes :) eg a 'bad' loadof fuel in the tank wont blow the motor up.. condensation and contagion in pump gas fuel tanks change octane ratings etc..

OK Baaaaackkkk! Faaaarkkkk:)

Well the SST 245KW is f2#$%$ing awesome Alan Launched it then I did.. the wheels churped no probs... 180km/h VERY quickly.. The low rev pull is VERY impressive just in Sports mode! SS Mode is race track go go go.

270KW 5MT goes like you wouldnt believe! The difference is more low down pull and better high end power.. 2000rpm in 5th and pulled out to overtake easy.. didnt bog down at all.. 50km/h at the time. 490NM or so.. he was a bit cagey about the real number..

The 270KW SST is still in testing.. so wont drive that for 3 more weeks!

The clutch pressure on the 5MT feels light which I didnt like.. there is an upgrade which is more solid feeling. Well I am going for the SST as it a lot of fun to drive. I like the 5MT but, maybe showing my age, but on and off the clutch in traffic will give me the chits!

SO how did he get this power? On2it and STB he uses Mitsubishi Japan & WRC dev in NZ for the mapping but it is a propierty map just for TMR. Muffler and tail pipes TMR, Spings TMR, Brake Pads TMR. I drove theTMR sping and standard springs and you REALLY notice the difference.. a lot more responsive and 'solid'.

I tried the SST in roundabouts and traffic absolutly no sign of wrong gear selection. Brakes, no brakes, coasting in down changed and burped the exhaust. The remap takes care of all that stuff!

There is some other stuff I am not able to share in here.. but it is more being politically correct than substance.

the 270kw sst will be a beast, I need to start saving for the tune. Great to hear they sorted the shift points.
SST must be a age thing(never thought i'd own an auto), i love the way it just keeps on going with the lightening fast changes. I don't think it will be long b4 all cars have 2 pedals.

Really? No water spray.. It comes with the GSR in OZ as standard.. You must have the HID headlights then!

The remap makes it work much better. I will be using it for the track.

I get my X in Feb/March. There are some minor changes comming through in the 09 builds I believe... cosmetic. Tail lights and dash trim.. Plus my BMW contract ends in Feb.

Tell her we are in Aussie land, and that we all have an inner bogun tucked inside of us somewhere, and besides I can think of more worse bogun cars out there! (However, I don't consider the Evo X a bogun car!)

Which dealer will you be purchasing from? I'm thinking Knox or Chadstone.

*EDIT* Just like to say hello to everyone, I joined sometime ago on here, but have been waiting on the Aussie launch of the X here, and...... have been lazy.

I have used a broker for 10 years so who ever gives us the best price! I already have the servicing worked out so no dealer can gripe about not selling the car but handling the warranty claims if any. Keep in mind with in 6 months the car will be modified to 278KW.
Having said that my preference is Dan at Chadstone so hopefully he wins the deal!

Oh I forgot to report on the track day at Sandown yesterday.. They had a photographer so getting those shots soon!

Sandown is very slippery in parts in the wet so had to have my whit about me. Plenty of 4 wheel drifting in turn 1 and last turn. Was on the Dunlop standard SP600 tyres as a lot of rain was forecast...and it proved accurate for the morning. I was fast for all except GTR35 2009

I got to 220km/h on back straight estimate GTR was 240km/h.

The afternoon session was dry and in the dry the R Spec tyres proved to be the go as you would expect, so I lost out there. - They were very tricky in the morning as some cars had some big spins! :) Great to watch happen especially as I wasn't that close to them at the time!

Big surprise for me on the Day was me consistently rounding up the M6 BMW... in the straights I had more speed and certainly in the corners.. We were both on road tyres and the M range doesn’t come with the run flat crap the rest of them have!

2 EVO 8s there very non standard.. Got em in the straight but couldn’t match it in the curves (they had R spec) and they we driving much more aggressively than me so I put this down to driver and tyres. Both good guys though and they gave me lots of encouragement. They were 3 -4 secs faster in the timed session. JB driving guys said I would be 8-10 secs faster with the right rubber. My instructor for the day BTW was Alf Constanzo!! :) What a legend he is... I learnt a hell of a lot and improved my time by 4 seconds implementing his changes.

There we 3 stock cars there, WRX, me and M6. Yes I put the WRX away easily. The 2 others were STIs and modded pretty heavily and had R spec,, in the wet I nailed them good but in the dry couldn’t keep up in corners.. I match one for straight line speed and faster that the other which surprised me as I am Stock.

First time out in the car on the track so I was a little conservative with my driving.. Did get the ABS to activate once in the back straight at 220km/h.. That got my attention I can tell you ( Braked at 100m instead of 180m).. Made the sweeping LH no probs but I was worried there for a second.

The Porches didn’t present a problem but man there were some Holden’s that were loaded off a trailer and boy what weapons!

One had 500KW ATW and the other 600 KW ATW.. even Luke Youlan said they were as quick as Super Cars in the straight he even said one was faster in the straights but said they wouldn’t match a Super car round the track as the set up wasn’t up that. No control bits on the two cars that were there.

All in all a great day and leant heaps… my Calipers are now a dull red J had DS2500 pads in, backing plates off and Castrol Hi Performance brake fluid.. Shit the brakes on the X are bloody smooth even Alf was impressed!

Can't tell you then I'd have to kill u lol

DUNDEE
10-15-2009, 09:13 AM
OK then I will tell!

The main thing was race line and injecting inputs into the car during cornering and finding the 'right' spot to bring the power on. I was late into most corners and as a result to hit the apex point I had to corrrect with more wheel inputs than was necessary causing over driving and would explain my 4 wheel drifts in the wet!

I was braking too early and not keeping the power on long enough.. to be honest the braking power of the car was better than my brave pills!
I did have a oversteer in the sweeper at the end of the back straight at 150km/h in the rain -wasn't a big moment but my arse tighted up!

so with all of that taken out a bit I got the improvement. - still heaps to go but I will work on it

sounds awesome mate. It would have been so cool to have such an old hand giving you personal advice like that. brilliant. congrats. I hope you've got your next session booked! :)

I've done a 360 spin in the wet at about 120km at Taupo - it might not have been that fast but and let me tell you the sphincter muscle got a workout and so did the rs6 driver's chasing me at the time.

yes the late braking takes a bit of nerve, ever since I got a son Ive been a little less courageous... but I would imagine having a seasoned driver telling you all the braking points would be quite advantageous and take some of the risky feeling out of it.

That particular car didnt win the 12hr, it's a car we specifically built for Tarmac Rally, and it's not using Exe-tc suspension either. It shares the same livery as the 12hr car we built and that hence why your confusion, but is different in the build as far as specification goes to a 'production car' that is built for endurance events.

Having said that we did race on the weekend with the productions cars and the Evo X's we built walked away from the competition at this years Sandown 1hr on the weekend just gone. BMW 335i's, Ford and GMH Holden V8's, Subaru STI's found it hard to match the pace of our Evo X's

Speaking of 'Love the beast' You might recognise the car that qualified 5th and came 7th in both races, Mr Eric Bana races an Evo X

Great target audience for a question on Exe-tc suspensions purchase/setup work from WRC Developments... anyone who has them done do a review for us? thanks in advance.

I have considered getting Exe-tc done by WRCdevelopments (I had all my other work done by them).. however on pricepoint I couldnt justify it for myself personally. (around 3.5K+ not including install). I have not heard of any other X being done by them, but when I was there with them for a couple of days I did see a porshe being fitted with a custom jobbie.
They do have a good rep and do great work from engine rebuilds and tuning to suspension work. BUT they are a 2 man crew so there is usually a wait time involved.

However the road/race Exe-tc kit has gotten some awesome reviews and by all accounts well worth the effort especially for the X. If you need more information there are a couple of install reviews at thelancerregisterdotcom Road/Race seems to be the best option for the occasional weekend track warrior.

Pick my new red (not keen on the colour but its the only colour left available in a manual) EVO X up in 3 days.
Plan is to run it in over xmas then fit up the turbo back exhaust and have it tuned by my good old ex MMAL mate of mine (yes i worked at MMAL as well) here in Adelaide. Im sure Mcoy will know the guy im talking about ;)

Will post up results and thoughts on the EVO once i have the car and we have done the work to it. Will be nice having a car that actually handles after 9months of owning a big HP turbo FG falcon that was great in a straight line but a boat everywhere else.

Sounds good mate.

Ive just put in a wideband last weekend, boostguage going tommorrow (after a spot of bad luck), swift springs already arrived from MAPerformance so just waiting for the old father in law to visit so we can install the springs together.

Injector and retune hopefully this month as well.

I'm still waiting for a decent closed track invite :/ the Lake Mountain Tarmac Rally sounds awesome.

Cairns hasn't been on the top of my list but I have heard mixed reviews about Cairns..

certainly Borabora and Morea would rock... what sort of visit are you doing for your honeymoon? treking? adventure? partying? surfing, sightseeing or relaxing?

A standard Evo X runs around Winton ( the long track, which is what you watched) in around 1:09 driven by a professional driver. When I say standard Evo X, I mean straight off the showroom floor and when we did the test we ran both SS-T and 5 speed and there wasnt much in either car as for a timed difference.

Looks like that 360 just got sold! Bit of shame the colour wasnt what I was looking for either. Will have to keep waiting for the right one to pop up.

I gave Mitsubishi Motors in Newmarket a call and they told me that Japan has temporarily suspended production of the X and they can't get any in at the moment and the only ones they can sell are second hand ones of which they have a red one for sale at the moment. Hi from Perth!

Got my X MR back in January 2009. Had some fun in it so far, but the last 6 months has been taken up playing with my MY98 Subaru, which will be my dedicated track hack. (X is quicker - at the moment - but I can't justify tracking the evo and the potential damage to the back pocket should I bin it)

So far the X has:
HKS Legamax muffler, mid pipe and front pipe
HKS EVC
Cusco sway bars f & r
Agressive alignment
Tune

Had a HKS panel filter and HKS spark plugs - but since having an issue with the MAF, gone back to the stock bits.

Now I just need some more power to let me do some skids :)

The Mrs has had like 30 views on her pathfinder and two enquiries, one serious. with a couple of shitty pics out the window in the rain!!.

Not one on the evo for near the same price. Leaves plenty of time to decide on the next car I guess.

Does anyone know if the new evo's in NZ stock are the old model or the 2010 model. From the vague answers, i think they still have old stock. Does the new one only have the new instrument cluster as a change?
Will sell my car before i go suss them out properly.

I dont think theyve replenished old stock yet but I havent talked to the dealers in a while. I havent seen any 2010's on our shores.. theyve (NZMMC) been focusing on the new outlanders, tritons and the new Challengers..

If you are looking to get a 2010.. you should contact andrew simms and see if they have any they can do a trade with you on bugger on lack of the bites mate

Yep the Mrs is selling the pathfinder to get a triton. with the field days special she can almost get a triton with 20 inch wheels for the same price.

Had an enquiry on the Evo, but he was in dream land, looking for an E10 for 32k. Yeah right, he might be waiting another 3 years!

Sweet, you bringing the Mean az Blue Evo 10 race car?? We could do with more e10 race cars here.

Great here if you're into fishing, diving and hunting.
I'm picking not so good if you are looking for race car sponsors, but we have some good race tracks, and a new one near auckland.

Well looks like the pathfinder has gone, who would have picked that!
Pathfinder sold before the Evo 10 had an enquiry, at basically the same price, year older and 3 times the K's.
