So, I've been looking at the 3 tires in that link & was wondering what you guys would go w/ for the money. I prefer to buy locally & so far, these are what people have recommended to me at different shops. The F1 will run me about $850-$900 installed w/protection plan, the GT will cost $960, & the Alpine 3 will be nearly $1100. What would you guys/gals go with? Thanks. Please comment.

Note: The winters here can be iffy. Last year was worse than the previous year. The most snow there was at once, was probably 4". We rarely get more than 6", but it can happen. I usually drive 5 miles or so to & from school, a couple times a day on city streets, up & down 1 major hill. I also sometimes take the freeway & drive 20 miles to visit my parents.

I'm also not trying to spend too much $

Are you looking for more of an All season or hard core winter tire?

Well, I will be switching to them in Dec. & back to the stock Advans in March. I may consider using them for my back-ups, if my Advans wear too much... assuming I won't have money for summer tires, but I don't know about that part.

The F1 is going to be way more worth it. Just do a little research. You can take the F1 through a flood and it will stick as long as the car does not float away.

They will also wear better so you can use them for a few seasons. I would not consider a pair of the GT's..they do not balance worth a shit.

I don't know much about the Alpine. I just know the F1 is bad ass and if its not broke, don't fix it and it is 200 cheaper than the Alpine so there you go.

Good to know about the GT. A local shop was trying to sell me those over the F1. For some reason they are also trying to charge me about $260 per tire vs $160 on tirerack :(

They are trying to unload them on an unsuspecting girl.

Read the last sentence of that article and do your research hon. I bet you will find your answer ;)

thanks "hon"... I have researched on tirerack, but couldn't find much info on the other 2 tires that I am looking at. I will bring a tirerack print off on pricing, including shipping & road hazard protection to my local shops. I was looking for people's personal experience & input, but as of now I am leaning toward the F1, since that's where the most votes have been made.

Not looking at the Bridgestone RE960?

^ I haven't, but I was able to talk down my Goodyear store & get a better deal, including Road Hazard. It's about $10 more per tire than tirerack, but I prefer buying local... so $40 more overall is not bad too me.

Anyone have experience w/ tirerack's road hazard program? Is it easy to deal with? It seems like a bit of a hassle waiting to get reimbursed...

I would strongly suggest the Bridgestone Potenza RE90AS. Awesome tire!!!
Got them on my shiny new X now.
Had them on a 2 wheel drive truck and made it through last winter with out any issues!!

Unless it snow's a lot where you live I wouldn't recommend any. The slight increase in grip under snowy weather doesn't make up for the loss of grip of during dry / wet weather.
