: IPOD Cable Questions

Another question about mitsu accessory...Just picked up car, and they are planning on installing the ipod cable next week since its shipment has been delayed...

1) I am assuming the cable is hardwired to the nav unit in the back, but where does it come out from in the DASH? I just dont want them to mess or drill the dash...

2) Is it aux in/out only? Or does it recognize music info and display it also on the nav? If so, do other mp3 players do this as well?

Cause I can always tell them to cancel it.

Let me know,

Thanks.

If you got the SSS package or the Navi package it should already come with an Aux input using RCA cables. Just buy the RCA to "headphone jack" cable and save a butt load of money and call it a day. If they install the cable they will disable the current RCA inputs and there isn't anywhere for the cable to come out unless they bring it into the glove box, so I would assume drilling may be required.

The little plastic plate where the stock RCA jacks are is removable. If they have to remove the RCA jacks to put in the IPOD cable I would assume they put the input for the IPOD in the same location where the RCA jacks used to be.

I am getting the IPOD / MP3 player connector next week and installing it myself. My MR did not come with the navigation system, but I will update this thread about weather the cable is a simple audio input, or a control system for the IPOD as well.

Do you know HOW to remove it? Because the cables I had plugged into it were real tight, and when I pulled them out, it stopped working altogether.

It's not so much an "ipod connection" as it is an aux input. You'd still have to control your music and such via the ipod itself.

The Mitsu Evo X brochure says the optional iPod cable will enable "interactive control" over the iPod. I'm most interested to hear the outcome of this; esp in my decision to go Navi or not.

Currently in my Civic FD (current JDM model) I have a Dension Icelink hooked up to the factory headunit which offers full control but I prefer to leave it in iPod mode whereby people in the car can select songs/playlists on the iPod as normal, but the steering wheel mounted and headunit track-change buttons work, and volume is set by the headunit rather than the iPod.
