: MR Tracked

I see the previous track posts are gone...

Took the MR out today for the third hard lapping session. Took member ddawg out to stretch his X's legs. Verdict: all good.

The tranny has held up (temp wise) thus far with no problems. This thing is awesome. You have so much time on your hands without the need to shift that I planned a cruise with my wife last week via the bluetooth. No, you can't shift better than this thing, sorry.

The brakes again were phenomenal. I still can't get over the stopping power and fade resistance of the OE set up.

Engine sang beautifully. Needs more power though. Once turned in, it could use more powering through the corners. Any straight over 800 feet and I feel like paddling with my arms out the window. Temp "needle" didn't move from the middle all day.

Less body roll would be nice. More front camber would help quite a bit. The upcoming Robi overhaul should help these areas:)

Will be swapping out to Raybestos pads from Girodisc for the next session and getting his lightweight rotors after that. Will update on that when I get them on the track.

Cheers.

Subscribed.

What do you plan to do about the power?

I am probably going to wait until the spring for a couple of reasons. The track closes Nov 1 here and re-opens April 1.

1) I am following all the tuners on the forums and their work on the X. I am certain things will come and go by then, and hopefully the dependable (and safe) stuff will have been established by then.

2) The SST is handling the current beatings well, but I want to see if it tolerates it repeatedly.

3) I would like to see what it does with a Robi set up, less weight, and wider than stock Hoosiers.

Well adding more power will certainly strain the SST more. It will be interesting as time goes on.

Hopefully the market will develop a lot more in the off-season for all you SST guys. Being limited to only 350lb-ft has gotta go.

Yeah, dpsa kicked my ass. But mad props to him, great guy.

I had gone to the autobahn in a group event that cost me $125. I was there from 9am till 4:30. In that time I was able to do a total of 14laps. Yesterday, as his guest, we did way more then that in about an hour.

I'm still crazy excited. He taught me the proper line and now I'm working on learning how to heal-toe downshift cause that is what was killing my time yesterday.

Anyway, many thanks to you for the greatest day I've had in quite some time.

Oh and he took me for a ride in his MR around the track. All I can say is that the shifting is flawless and quite amazing.

Tested my SST in Germany on the Nurburg ring, held up just fine for the first 4 laps, no heating or shifting problems at all. Only issue was when I crashed it into a crash barier at 60mph front on. Smashed radiator and bent front shassis arm-woops won't be going back there for a while!

Car was great though one of the best performing on the ring.

Who knows. Transmissions coolers, clutch packs, the sky is really the limit. The real question is, will you spend the money.

Oh man sorry to hear that.

Also..what lap times are the MR's running there?

well 4th lap was 9:32, but It would have done much quicker with a more experianced driver who know the ring better, I was just getting carried away, stepped on the brake when I got too close to the guy in front, car is OK - been waiting for it to be repaired for 2 months now, should get it back in oictober.

Difference between pro driver and a novice. Especially on a track where fast times come from full throttle turn-ins on blind corners. I've seen the place in person, its a whole different experience.

Official, Robi will be visiting me next week:)

So Robi comes over, turns out we were missnig a vital piece of equipment, the coilvers (shipping snafu). We didn't install anything.

Took the car to the track the next day anyway...overheated tranny. Sold it the next week.

Bottom line, if you're gonna hump it, don't get the MR. Will acquire GSR in the coming months as the track shuts down in a week.

Out.

Sucks man. Glad it overheated on you before you had the coilovers installed though. Save some cash.

Out of curiosity: when you took the MR on the track, were you left-foot braking? Specifically, were you applying brake with your left foot AND gas with your right?

No I did not. I read about that in some other post from a dealer, but that is a bunch of horse manure. It might happen if you do that as well, but I wouldn't know. The bottom line is that the tranny is underbuilt for road race abuse, period.

An australian member on here is driving a 270KW SST next week. Review to come. (hopefully).
