There should not be any issues as the curtain air bags do NOT come from the pillar. The pillar separates slightly but should be held by strap. I know this is how most manufactures do it...haven't specifically seen pics of an Evo side curtain system... So if secured properly the pods should be fine...

You wont have an issue. Airbag isnt behind the pillar, its above the drivers side window in the roof.

:wtfsign: I don't think that is correct.

According to this pic from Mistu, the front a-pillar plastic liners do not move from airbag deployment. But, IMHO, that is a bad place for anything hard that your hands can hit or that can break loose and fly into your face. Then again, it's not gonna be my face. Would make a funny video though.

Yeah, they werent going to write air bag on the felt headliner.

And the head unit in our cars say Rockford Fosgate but they are made by Mitsu....

It's easier to print/stamp the plastic of the a-pillar than the felt roof lining. But there are no actual air bags in them....

Here is a picture of the air bags deployed in a MS3....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/xbox4414/ms3.jpg

Notice where they are coming out of....the top of the roof near where the "oh shit handels" are... you can see the stitches in the bag that hold in the air, then it deflates in the picture and makes it look flatter and wider than when they inflate. Looks like they are coming out of the pillar but bc it deflated it's now laying over the pillar. So you will be fine with a pod on the pilliar....

And this would mean something if we were talking about a Mazda Speed 3.
:fail:

Since we are not, show me that there is no airbag behind the a pillar on a Evo X.

You fail. It wont make the pillar or gauges hit u in the face.

I agree that you can have a guage in the pillar. But trust me there is an airbag behind the Pillars. I'd put the Boost guage down low.

My argument is that there IS an airbag behind the pillar. If you don't believe me go take your pillar off.

Open the owners manual. if you would all follow along and turn to page 2-50 and read the paragraph in the upper left had corner:

WARNING
"Do not attach a microphone or any other object around the part where the curtain airbag deploys, such as on the windshield, side door glass or front and rear pillars and roof side rail. When the curtain airbag inflate, the microphone or other object may be hurled with great force or the curtain airbag may not inflate correctly, resulting in death or serious injury."

note for those without a manual... the "microphone" is shown in the picture as being attached to the A Pillar

And here are some pics I found at EvoM.

Why does nobody use the search button? This issues id brought up at least once a month if not more on this forum and evom.net. The airbag is behind the a-pillar at the top. The a-pillar has a plastic strap that keep it attached. Plus the airbag goes down towards the floor, not out. So the a-pillar just moves up and out of the way a few inches when it deploys. If anything the gauges with fly towards the windshield. But the simple fix would to actually use the mounting kit for the gauges so there secured to the a=pillar.

there r pics on other forums showing the airbag right behind the pillar, up top mostly, so if u were to mount anything it would have to be really low on the pillar to be considered even remotely safe

Why would the the engineers at mitsu design an airbag system that would send the a-pillar flying across the car and smacking people in the Face? Well the simple answer is they didn't. So as long as you don't half-ass the install of the gauges there should be no problem with gauges on the a-pillar. But then again for those that are too lazy to pop the a-pillar off there self to see if there's an airbag behind it or where it's at will probably be just as lazy when or if they install there gauges in an a-pillar pod.

Which is exactly why I said to mount it low. We went over this a month ago I think. I just wanted to shut that dude up about arguing on how there was no airbag behind the pillar. :godance:

Thank you Talon. This is my first turbo car and I'm here to be schooled. No way am I staying at stock power. If the most I can go to is 300 awhp then that is where i want to be. And I damn sure want a boost guage. I don't know why Mitsu doesn't do that factory. Somebody could make a killing if they would make an A-Pillar to mount guages into for the Evo X's.

Somebody that knows something about plastic mold injection. I could try to make something out of wood that could be used to form a mold...but i have no idea how to melt the plastic and inject it into the mold to form a shit pile of these things.

the A-piller and c-piller's are BOTH held in place by a thick strap. so YES there is an air bag in the pillars but NO it will not FLY off the pillar and wack yall in teh head it is impossible
