I drive way too much, I have a 70 mile a day commute to work, that I did not have when I first got the car, and I am curious if there is a product that I can change modes to a economy mode?

Thanks:tumbleweed:

A brick under the gas pedal? :)

Actually, the simple performance mods like intake, exhaust, intercooler and intercooler pipeing are all about increasing the flow efficiancy of the stock systems and should result in increased fuel economy as long as you are not WOT all the time. It used to be that cams would decrease milage due to the trade off betweeen idle efficiancy and high RPM efficiancy, but I am not sure how true that is with MIVEC... same thing with ECU tunning... it can go either way depending on your tunner and what you tell him to do / what he is good at.

I am untunes with the mods in my sig and my mpg went from 18.5 mpg unmodded to about 22.1 with my current mods. SO they help a little bit. I do alot of spirited driving as well with about the same mpg.

ecutek put me at about 4-5 mpg higher then stock with all my mods, pretty sure if you drive normal even with a stock system and a good LEAN tune you could do the same

SO my friend just bought a gti, lol, and he found an upgrade that has different modes that you can toggle between for better preformence or better fuel economy and you just have to pay for each setting, now is there something like that for the evo x or is that just called a tune??

^ I've never heard of such a thing... sounds expensive or slow, like the "economy" setting in the new STi

You will probably be able to do something like that once the Access port is released, however if fuel economy is what you're looking for you may have purchased the wrong car.

Any good tuner can tune your car to cruise at 16.8 A/F which will save you gas . Many cars around me cruise around town at 16.8 without any issues what so ever . Talk to your tuner about this he should have no problems helping you ..

buy a beater, or a bike. call it a day

surferdon

that's what I was thinking was buying a beater, and no I knew that the gas would be bad, but not this bad but a 100 or so more a week in gas is a lot and was just trying to save when I am not trying to race my car, just trying to get to work and avoid all the cops is SD:( But since I want to change some things, and save some gas at the same time, it all makes sense now!!

What would be the best thing to go with??

im in the same situation- since i drive on the highway at night- not sure I'd want to drive a bike- and as far as a beater- why? why did I buy the evo for then? I was thinking about the intercooler spray setup- doesn't really improve mpg, but will give you that extra oomph when you want it on command- as opposed to all the time,- and its relatively cheap for the power it gives u- like a tune- good deal for the $$$

i thought there was some sort of boost controller where you could program to different tunes- 1 for high boost performance and one for fuel economy with little to no boost?

Wow if you think you've got it hard try being in the UK, 1 dollar is around £50, and we can spend that for one of our vehicles in one day... never mind a week :bowlol:

1$ is 50 pence currently. That will buy you newspaper, maybe. I know petrol in Manchester is about 115p/liter right now. Thats just under $9/gallon in some places.

i would say civic or integra, but we live in sd so that's not the best option lol. . . . .but honesly i haven't been hassled by the cops too much. i had my 9mr for almost 2 years, never got hassled once. had a loud exhaust, window tint and no front plate. but on my x im going pretty stealth just to avoid any unnecessary heat.

where in sd do you live?

Sorry but more or less we have to live with the MPG we got. We can change it a little bit with mods or with the way we drive but nothing extreme. We are stock in the 18-23 mpg range and that is it really. I have been enjoying the car so much that to tell you guys the truth I don't really even care.

He isn't going from an EVO to a Civic. He is keeping the EVO and getting a Civic on the side. Though personally, I bought my car and spent this money to enjoy it and not spend my driving time in a beater.

A tune will help a little but not so much that you will feel it in your wallet.

I bought the Evo so I could DD it. I couldn't imagine commuting in another car. I even like my rock chips from all three interstates I have to get on while heading to work, LOL.

I know he isn't getting rid of the evo. but who wants to switch from an evo to a civic on a regular basis. it would be like dating a hot chick (evo) and a fat chick (civic) at the same time, but spending more time with the fat slow chick. now who the hell would do that? ride that evo hard! and enjoy it! (just don't get caught like me humping the exhaust pipe, or u might get a ticket for lewd and lasciviuos behavior)get what I'm saying.

Thats the best thing to do to every car now a days . In fact every car we do a good biggie back or standalone gets a 16.8 cruising tune , once the tuning program is good to go for the X I will do the X a bit leaner than that . You should 100% give your customers that option , the X will go even leaner but that may freak-out many so 16.8 is more than safe for ANY X .

i put an intake and hotpipe and i get 21 city and 28 highway

all i do it shift before 2500 and just take it easy

but when an STi pulls next to me i take the car to redline in every gear and kick the crap out of the STi

but its fun and you save gas :P

A POS (piece of $hit) car that you don't mind putting lots of miles on.

It can be an economy car that you drive to save fuel, or it can be a beat up crappy car driven in winter to avoid road salt.

When I lived in Hawaii we had a "sub set" of the beater catigory called "an island car"... these were cars you could drive on the Hawaiian Islands, but would never trust on the mainland because there is only so far you have to walk when you break down on an Island... on the mainland the car would be sent to a junk yard without question.

If you get a EBC- Can you just turn down the boost or eliminate it, provided you have a tune? Or does this require some sort of standalone system to allow you to change boost as you go.

This is exactly what you need:

In our rapidly changing environment, WORKS is fully committed to engineering efficiency. The WORKS Brain Flash "Eco" is designed for the gas conscious commuter and enthusiastic driver. The WORKS Eco Flash reprograms the factory ECU to optimize air-fuel ratios at various loads and RPMs for daily driving, while providing an improvement in performance. It's a win-win situation. All fuel improvements have been developed and verified with the Factory Mitsubishi MUT-III tool. The Brain Flash Eco especially benefits driving enthusiasts who would like to retain their normal driving style. At wide open throttle the WORKS Eco Flash brings a 30%+ increase from 3750-7600 RPM and a 5% increase fuel economy during tip-in acceleration. As a good side effect expect a 15+HP peak gain without any sacrifice in drivability. As always, the Mitsubishi safety parameters have been left intact for peace of mind.

***An added benefit is the WORKS Eco Flash will pay for itself in approximately 6500 miles with significant fuel cost savings from that point forward.

Nothing comes close to the plug-and-play performance and reliability of the WORKS Brain Flash. An excellent choice for those who would like to maintain their stock boost.

• 30%+ increase in economy during WOT from 3750 RPM and higher
• 5% increase in fuel economy during acceleration
• 15hp+ peak hp gain
• Developed and Verified with Factory Mitsubishi MUT-III tool

bros, mind to share with me?
by turning off the ASC, supposingly can help to save fuel?
If using SST, when the car is running, can we change gear to neutral and let it rolls? Will that damage our SST gearbox instead of saving fuel>?
