im gonna guess you are trying to remove your STRUT tower bar NOT your ECU, right?, you shouldnt even be touching your strut bolts to remove your ECU.

You have to remove the two bolts in the front and on the top then the ecu and metal bracket come out. The remove the bolts attaching the ecu to the metal bracket.

Note that Canadian models use shear bolts so you'll need to do some drilling and Easy-Out work [if you have a Canadian mode]. According to the shop manual.

so its under the red cover? i thought that it was the black box with the metal cover attached to it. the piece that has 2 connectors going to it. the piece right next to the red cover

Correct, for some reason it was skewed to the left when I saved it and uploaded it so I changed the drawing. Hit refresh or reload your browser...told you it was a shitty drawing.
