: go karts?
gazebostealer 07-23-2008, 04:16 AM anyone here race go karts? My dad and i been getting into running karts recently, and its pretty damn fun. We dont have anything serious just a couple kt100s and a 4 cycle on meth. I havent run any real races and im not that great, but Im pretty suprised at how intense and triring it is. Even just the little i have run has made me a way better driver in a normal car. I wonder why karting isnt more popular, as cheap and fast as karts are. I dont think i will ever risk racing my evo when I can get just as much or more enjoyment out of running karts.
I used to run sprint and shifter karts as training back when I raced formula cars. Karts are excellent race vehices and give you serious experience. I don't know if you can find a professional race driver who hasn't and doesn't run karts.
sinktheboat 07-23-2008, 06:21 AM I have a rotax max, got it instead of racing my old GTR. A set of tyres for the kart was $240 and lasted weeks. One GTR tyre was $850 and would last one track day.
Kooldino 07-23-2008, 06:21 AM If I had some free time and a track for them closeby, I'd be all over this.
is300 07-23-2008, 06:43 AM it they some sort of event here , I wouldnt mind spending the money to do it
UnctrldRage 07-23-2008, 06:53 AM Id love to race karts and I would if I lived closer to a track that did leagues or if i decided to compete nationally it wasnt so damn expensive to travel....
on2it 07-23-2008, 07:15 AM Ive been considering a rotax gokart, just dont have enough space in the garage to hang it up. I agree, go-karting is a much cheaper way of racing :)

+1
on2it 07-23-2008, 07:16 AM Sink-the-boat, how much was the go-kart rebuild for every season?
SpicyMchaggis 07-23-2008, 07:17 AM I drove a 250cc shifter cart once. Wild in the streets epic.
gazebostealer 07-23-2008, 07:12 PM oh man you lucky dog, those 250s are amazing. sadly ive never seen one in person. the track ive been
running at is way too small for those. I think I heard that 125s,80s,and tags all have pretty close times since it is so tight

we get up to around 60 on the long straight.
I swear the 4 cycle methanol kart we have feels like the fastest thing I have ever driven.
Its probably because it is so loud and vibrates so much(not to mention its too big for me so I also have to hold on for dear life)
Im sure the kt100s we have handle better and are faster, but it sure doesnt feel as intense.
I dont think ever ever gotten so bruised and beaten.
Id love to start racing seriously, but I dont have the time and Im not good enough and I dont think our ghetto kt100s could quite keep up with the tag class.
In the meantime just racing against friends and family is a blast, and at around 1k per kart its pretty affordable, yet still gives an amazing racing experince. Maybe one day Ill move to a shifter, but really i dont think its needed.

Never actually got to race it very much, it think it was about $1000 every 40hrs off the top of my head, if you want to be at the top. Rotax are the cheapest to run. KT you need to rebuild all the time.
I'm selling mine if you want one.

Yeah, I'm a big guy so I barely fit on it. My hips were bruised badly for about two weeks. It vibrates like all hell, louder than all hell, and is fun as..well all hell. Its nearly impossible to gauge speed but there were times when I felt like I was going near 100. The old puke-a-meter came into effect a few times because every time I cornered hot, I felt like I was going to high-side and barrel roll into the grass.
sinktheboat 07-24-2008, 04:54 AM ribs are the big issue for brusing and cracking!

If I were 50lbs lighter, I could believe it. It hurts, bad, but its worth it. The uneasy feeling of speed can only be compared to riding a sport bike backwards with the throttle wide open.
