: Has any one put speakers in there x yet?
RALLY RED EVO X 07-25-2008, 06:47 PM well today i got to pull of my door panel and found out that the speakers put in from mitsu. are circle but the cut out are triangle so how is it possible to change out the speakers to some better ones i have the rockford fosgate 9 speaker upgrade if you want to call it a upgrade i think i would have been better to say for get it and go with out it do you know if the ones with out the rockford fosgate's or normal circle's or still the triangle cut out?
kidneythief13 07-25-2008, 06:50 PM seems as though the base ones are circular cut-outs. I currently have some Clarion coaxials in my X

RALLY RED EVO X 07-25-2008, 06:59 PM well i just dont know what to do i think i am going to have to get 5 1/2 and take back the 6 1/2 and make something to hold it in or i also thought about cut it into a circle and drilling new holes that what i think i am going to do anyways cut and dill make it one of a kind haha thanks
kidneythief13 07-25-2008, 07:14 PM hmmm... well, how deep & wide is the mounting area? this is what I have: http://clarion.com/us/en/products/2007/audio/speakers/SRR1646/us-en-product-pf_1165294763141.html
proracer718 07-25-2008, 07:36 PM Might be a stupid question, but have you tried putting in the 6 1/2 that you bought? I am thinking the cut out shape itself shouldn't be that big of a deal as long as the magnet can fit in the hole then it should work, just my thought.
logonzojls 07-25-2008, 11:48 PM I replaced my speakers as well, the best solution to adding aftermarket speakers was to use the stock speakers as adapters. You simply cut out the woofer/magnet section of the stock speakers and leave the outside ring of plastic. Using that as speaker adapters. It will work perfectly for 6.5 woofers.
I did attempt to first use aftermarket speaker adapter rings with very little success. I eventually went with the above.

did you get everything Clarion even the head unit or only the speakers. how do you like it. I know Clarion is an not so expensive product and it is supposed to be rally good.
gazebostealer 07-26-2008, 01:51 AM I just installed speakers in all my doors but driver. I used these adapters
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=142SGMQ656
I had to drill holes in the door and in the adapters but it seems to work pretty well. Powered off the stock deck they are quieter and not sure if they sound much better(a little at least) . Im thinking with the new deck things should be much better.
I also put some Rammat in the doors. Not sure how big of a difference that will make either.
man the stock non-sss speakers sure are cheap. those rockford ones look a million times better.
RALLY RED EVO X 07-26-2008, 02:33 AM i got infinity ones the magnet did fit but the 6 1/2 they stuck out like 4 inch and i could not see getting a longer screw and leaveing like that. i dont want to cut my rockfords i would like to sell them so some one can use them not cut them all up so i think i am going to just make the hole in the door a little bigger for my 6 1/2 to fit in there a little better. Gives me something to do this weekend and get to use a new dremel :)
But here are the speakers that i got i like how they look and i hope they sound good i paid to much for them to sound like s**t!!

kidneythief13 07-26-2008, 02:35 AM Infinity is always a good choice... I love their tweeters, especially for acoustic songs
RALLY RED EVO X 07-26-2008, 02:43 AM WOW Kidneythief13 do you ever leave your computer? your on top of stuff faster then i can type something......hahaha......just playing:motorcycle:
kidneythief13 07-26-2008, 02:50 AM ^yeah... I have nothing to do right now:rolleyes:
mrcynkilla 07-26-2008, 07:37 AM I finally got started on this today. I was waiting on the Crutchfield spacers. Come to find out, those did not add enough clearance between the (freaking stupid) triangular hole and the basket on my new speakers. I don't want to destroy the foscrap speakers; and I was fortunate to have 6.5" spacers from an old ride. Here are pics of the left side, the right side will be tomorrow. The last pic is my solution for the tweeter. The new tweet is bigger, so I cut the mount at the skinniest point and clamped it around the tweet. Tomorrow I will Dremel down some of the mount and make it fit better, then hotglue to seal the cut. The hardest part was squeezing 4-channel speaker wire through the door joint harness. Argh my hands are so sore!!

on2it 07-26-2008, 11:17 AM good effort. more pics of the finished upgrade. :)
mrcynkilla 07-27-2008, 08:28 AM I did the right side today and finished the tweeter on the left. Here are some pics of routing cable through the door harness and the final product. It's not so impressive with the door panel on, just looks normal. I guess this would make a better how to, but I'm too tired.
Pull out rubber harness from both chassis and door then cut holes to fit the cable. It would be really hard to fit the cable through the end of the harness and avoid cutting it.

Get one of these things!!!!!!
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0105.jpg
Wrap the end in tape cause it will try to grab the inside of the rubber harness.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0106.jpg
Spray both cuts with WD-40.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0107.jpg
Insert taped grabber into door side harness and push through till it comes out the hole on the chassis side. The passenger side was much easier then the driver side cause of less wires in the harness.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0108.jpg
Grab speaker cable with grabber.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0110.jpg
Tape speaker cable to grabber cause it will never hold inside the harness.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0111.jpg
Pull on grabber till the cable comes though then disconnect it.

Right side woofer installed, tweeter wires hanging down.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/purpleinsector3/evo%20x%20install/100_0113.jpg
All done.

I also got the head unit in but still need the JDM kit. It will just have to look ghetto for two weeks. Tomorrow will be the amp and crossovers, then that's all till I buy more stuff in a few weeks.
gazebostealer 07-27-2008, 03:21 PM nice. I just finished mine yesterday too. my speakers were shallow enough that just the crutchfield bracket worked. I matted the inner and outer door as well. It made a pretty big difference. The stock speakers were louder than the new ones when I had them both hooked up, but now that I have them all replaced, I dont have to turn up the stock deck as much as I used to when I am on the road. and i have concluded that even with the stock deck it was worth the upgrade, hopefully the pioneer i have coming in will be even better.
The only thing I might have to fix is when I shut the door with the window down I hear something rattle, but when the window is up its fine. I have a feeling it is the speaker harness tapping on the window, not sure if it is worth taking the panel off and trying to unstick my mat.
on2it 07-27-2008, 09:37 PM nice install!
mrcynkilla 07-29-2008, 08:12 AM Here's a few more from Sunday. I was going to wait awhile for rear speakers, but couldn't help myself and bought/installed those tonight (no pics of the rears though). I am completely stunned at how much power that little Alpine amp puts out. This stuff wasn't cheap, but damn what an upgrade. Still waiting on the JDM kit to de-ghetto the head unit.
