MrPurpleEvo 08-06-2008, 09:08 PM Hey guys we just got a bunch of AEM intakes for the Evo X!!! We are right now having a special price for this product!!! :godance::godance:
PRICE $284 SHIPPED ANY WHERE IN THE 48 STATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AEM is proud to introduce its new Cold Air Induction System for the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X 2.0L MIVEC (part # 21-678C). The largest power gains for the 21-578C are 16.67 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 17 lbs/ft of torque at 4,100 RPM as measured on the company’s All-Wheel-Drive Mustang Dynamometer.
AEM Cold Air intakes are dyno-tested against the competition to deliver unsurpassed performance. Each system is tuned on the dyno to deliver maximum torque and horsepower, and monitor OBDII sensors, Mass Airflow sensor (MAF) signal voltage and fuel trims during this process to ensure that all readings are within OEM parameters, eliminating the chance of a throwing a check engine light.
All Cold Air intakes are constructed of CNC, mandrel-bent 6063 aluminum, and feature reinforced, TIG-welded brackets and fittings for maximum durability. For the EVO X, AEM’s engineers took a different approach and designed a power-producing enclosed airbox. The airbox is constructed from cross-linked polythene and features a powdercoated aluminum lid with embossed AEM logo. From the aluminum MAF adapter, AEM has included a factory-style reinforced rubber tube made of high-strength EPDM. The enclosed airbox, the factory-style rubber tube and utilization of the factory air duct, gives this cold air intake kit a very stealth appearance.
All AEM intakes include AEM’s revolutionary DRYFLOW synthetic performance air filter; the first cleanable, reusable performance air filter that does not require oiling to filter and trap dirt and contaminants.

EvoX08 08-06-2008, 10:30 PM whats the differnce gonna be with the box over the filter, isnt that going to restrict the air coming in?
MrPurpleEvo 08-06-2008, 10:42 PM whats the differnce gonna be with the box over the filter, isnt that going to restrict the air coming in?
if you could see from the picture above the box is covering the filter from all sides for the heat...but has an openning where the stock filter box is connected to the stock Vent...with air getting sucked in from the air filter box...it makes almost a spinning air tornnado in the AEM AIR BOX!! giving MORE AIR into the intake.... :)

We wanted to have the best price on the web and it back fired on us, AEM called our office and told us that we couldn't sell the intake for that low :( so $284 shipped was the lowest we could go.
Sorry for the mix up guys!!!

This happened to 3 people, but all in the same purchase and all of which are Evoxforum members. Hopefully it will just be a one time occurence and an honest mistake. Im willing to give M1 the benefit of the doubt. Rene has been pretty nice in PM. Hopefully we will not see something like this again. I do think if you advertise a price you should honor it though, and if you say you have somthing in stock you should have it.

Thank you, and i couldn't agree with you more. If I was a customer, I would want that sales person to honor that price that was listed in the beginning. Unfortionly I'm only a sale's Rep and not a Manager so my power isn't as strong.....sorry guys.

Please refrain from these type of accusations, especially in a sales thread. If you have a beef with M1, please post about it in the Merchant Review section. Thanks.
nebolic 08-13-2008, 09:32 PM i think thats why most vendors do not publish prices on the forum but instead you have to PM them for the price. :)
lesson learned for next time.

JNZTuning 08-13-2008, 09:39 PM AEM is *VERY* proactive with their MAP (Minimum Advertised Pricing) to prevent Ebay "stores" from selling stuff @ $5 over cost so that they can get a case of beer in their dorm room for the weekend.
I don't think it was a case of bait-and-switch as opposed to not realizing that AEM is actively persuing businesses that are selling parts at too close to cost which kills the market for vendors and makes selling their parts no longer worthwhile.
AEM is going as far as putting businesses/people on a "do not sell to" list who don't follow this process. So you can't blame M1 for having to change their pricing.
It might seem to suck as a consumer (we've all been one/and all still are to some extent), but as someone on here complained about "knockoff parts" killing the industry, those of us actually in the industry realize how detrimental people selling at near cost are for all of the shops that have helped put this industry where it is.
Please understand their position before pointing fingers and thinking that it was completely intentional.
Yxd68 08-14-2008, 03:19 AM And here I thought dropping prices to put competitors out of business was the American way? And "price fixing" was against the law.
Silly me.
JNZTuning 08-14-2008, 04:01 AM And here I thought dropping prices to put competitors out of business was the American way? And "price fixing" was against the law.
Silly me.
If one is going to quote the law, one should know the law:
"In June, 2007, the U.S. Supreme court struck down a major 97 year old law on price fixing, which prohibits manufacturers from coercing retailers on how to set their prices.
The new ruling essentially wrote that the old law was too rigid, and each instance of price fixing would now be evaluated on a case by case basis to determine if it harmed or helped the consumer.
This went relatively un-noticed for a while.
But last week, Mayfair Games, US publisher of the popular board game Settlers of Catan as well as other games, sent letters to all of its retailers demanding that they limit any discounts on their games to 20% off the suggested retail price.
This is purportedly to boost struggling brick-and-mortar stores against the spread of deep-discounting online stores which have been stealing their business. Lots of discussion on Board Game Geek about this, split about evenly down the middle. Half the people say that deep discounters are good for the consumer, because people can buy more games and people without access to local stores can buy games. Half the people say that deep discounting is bad for the consumer, because local game stores server many more people than online stores do, and discounting games leads to their undervaluing."
On top of the above, that law applies to coallitions of businesses getting together and setting a price in order to corner a market. It would be "price fixing" if Company "A" and Company "B" who manufacture the same commodity or overall product contacted each other and set an agreement to limit pricing in order to form a monopoly on the market.
I'm not a lawyer, but my limited law reading has led me to understand it in the above description.
Yxd68 08-14-2008, 04:08 AM ^ Not I'm really confused. And we're way off topic too.
Where's my beer?
JNZTuning 08-14-2008, 04:16 AM ^ Not I'm really confused. And we're way off topic too.
Where's my beer?
Right now, probably the one in my hand? :p
Yxd68 08-14-2008, 04:26 AM Was that *your* beer? Sorry. <g>
Kooldino 08-14-2008, 04:54 AM This is the last I want to see about this in this thread, because it's far off topic and unfair to M1.
In a nutshell, MAP (Minimum Advertised Pricing) exists to keep things in check. This is extremely necessary in the performance parts business. Let's say for instance that company A is a huge online company (like Summit Racing) who gets Trinkets in bulk for $150 each (which is a relatively low markup by business standards outside of the auto industry). They sell the Trinket for $200, which is MAP. Company B is a medium or small company who gets the same trinkets for $180 each. They are now in a position where they have to price match a juggernaut like Summit and make $20 per Trinket. Anyone who has ever worked retail before can tell you that 10% is a very low markup (most retail chains operate on 100% markup). This is the current situation in the industry, WITH MAP pricing enforced.
If MAP didn't exist (or was violated), then Summit could afford to sell their Trinkets for $175 each ($5 less than Company B's cost on them) and put Company B out of business.
Now you may be thinking "So what, if Company B goes away, I can order from Summit". Well, yes and no. First off, with no competition, Summit would be free to raise their price to full retail. On top of that, Company B who made a lot of specific parts for YOUR car is no longer in business, because they couldn't even afford to pay their bills, let alone actually make enough money to feed their family. So now the aftermarket for your car suffers greatly due to the fact that all of the "Company Bs" out there are no longer in business. You may think this is far fetched but it's a very realistic picture of this industry.
I can say with 100% certainty that every single Approved Merchant on this website developing parts for our cars falls into the "Company B" category. I can tell you from experience that profit margins on parts sales are poor in this industry due to so much competition...and that's with MAP pricing enforcement. If it weren't for MAP pricing, all of the "Company Bs" out there would struggle to make $5 on a $200 part, and in many cases they would have to lose money just to price match (I've personally been in this situation several times).
There's a huge difference between "price fixing" to rip off the consumer and setting minimum pricing to keep the market from collapsing. Beleive it or not, paying MAP rather than a few dollars above cost on a given product is actually good for the consumer in the long run.
Long story short, support the companies that support you (http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1149). The companies who answer your questions, supply you with information, and supply you with unique products are the guys that you want to spend money with. If you don't support them, then they will ultimately not be able to support you.
With that said, I want to be clear that absolutely no offense is intended at M1. In all probability it was an honest mistake. Quite often, merchants have no way of knowing what MAP is on a certain product, and the only way they find out is if the manufacturer sees it and contacts them.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have no beef with M1 and was not attempting to bash the vendor. I was simply stating facts which were as follows:
In quoting the thread, M1 stated that they had "tons" of the AEM intakes... My friend called to verify and M1 clearly stated "yes weve got them in stock"... so happened he was in the same vicinity as M1 so he showed up expecting to pick one up.
1) M1 in fact DID NOT have them in stock at all
2) They said " you won't guess what.... we can't sell them at that price...
Pricing is understandable due to the whole minimum retail price requirement, etc... but stating items are in stock when in fact they are not, is not cool.
My "bait and switch" statement is in fact that. Someone was told they had something in stock at a stated price... and item was not there and price was not the same.
I'm not one to bash vendors because I understand the nature of the business. M1 seems extremely professional and forthright in their posts and I definitely do see this as an honest mistake. But PLEASE do not misrepresent product inventory. That is my one and only issue.

I couldn't agree with you more and thank you all for your post's...but what i want to clear is...when who ever's friend came in to the shop i told him one thing and when i tryed to explain myself on the situation he turned his back on me and left. I'm sorry but I personally thought that was disrespectful but its okay :) I could understand how some one could feel for driving from where he was to our shop...But again i do apologize for any mix up that has happen on this thread and this will not happen again.

MrPurpleEvo 10-08-2008, 11:37 PM Rene,
What is the box made of?
The airbox is made of cross-linked polyethylene and is attached to an aluminum CNC machined MAF adapter. The intake system feeds the Evo X's turbo through a high flow turbo inlet constructed of ultra strong EPDM rubber. This system replaces all of the most critical components of the factory intake system with high quality, well-engineering pieces that not only look great, but make power! In AEM's tests, this intake added 16.6hp and 17tq to the Evo X by way of 54% more airflow than the stock intake provides! :) very well made if i do say so myself...need to sell ASAP!!! one more left!!!!
