: Chip Light--help

I have a GSR with the sight/sound package and Nav.

I took it down to AMS in Chicago and was totally impressed by their shop and services....Anyone near them...it was well worth the drive (two hours for me).... I had them do just about everything they had available...Intake, FMIC and pipes, AEM fuel/air guage as well as a boost controller. Motor mounts and reflashed the ECU.

So here is the problem. The day after I got back from AMS, I am cruising down a street going about 35 in 4th gear I think. Instead of downshifting I just stepped on it to catch a light. As the turbo spun up...the boost pressure was about 5, I heard a soft pop and the engine went into limp mode. The "ASC off" light went on as well as the check engine light. IN the middle some yellow message saying get service now or something like that came on. I called AMS and they said to disconnect the mass airflow sensor which made it so I could drive home. It still left the service engine soon light on. THe ASC light and the middle when back to normal. The next day, AMS sent up one of the service managers with a trailer in case he needed to take back to the shop. We thought one of the IC pipes poped off. But he could find nothing wrong...He put it on the computer and could not find anything wrong....at this point the service engine soon light went off.

Well it happened again about 2 weeks ago. Again I was in 4th and just started spinning up the turbo when I heard the pop. I disconnected the sensor again and went home. I call the service manager at AMS (he gave me his cell number) and explained the situation...he suggested connecting the sensor then disconnecting the battery for 5 min. This turned the service enging soon light off....and all has been normal since.

I would like to know has anyone else had something similar happen. The thing that is odd about it is the ASC off light. AMS is trying to figure this out, but I am sure they would not mind the help.

sounds like the dreaded limp mode since you were at full throttle partial boost, you should get the codes pulled next time it happens to figure out what exactly it is

They did that .....again the thing that is strange is the ASC off light coming on....

There is a section in the owners manual that explains the situations that can cause the ASC OFF light to come on. There are alot of factors that can cause the light to come on. read through that if you haven't.

the same thing happened to me like 3 times already. i will be in at 80 at 5th. As soon as I step on the peddle to accelerate that ASC off Light comes on and next thing I know I cant accelerate anymore when pushing in the peddle.

What Intakes do you guys have on your cars??

I think someone else had this. I cant find the thread though.

seems like they are both running the same intakes

The next time this happens take your car to autozone and have them pull the CEL code. I had a similar thing happen to me with an aftermarket intake and a tune...sounded like I broke something, and the SES/ASC OFF lights came on. I pulled the CEL code and it was an AFR reading error. After talking with dynoflash we realized the problem was the intake. Since it didn't use the stock MAF housing, it was adjusting the MAF signal too much, and the ecu was leaning out the car too much at low rpm. I modified the intake to be like the buschur (using the stock MAF housing), and haven't had this happen since. However, I can't imagine this is your problem since you have an AMS tune and an AMS intake, they should be compatible with each other. However, without the Check engine light code we can't know for sure.

I think its the boost controllers throwing you off. When you get a tune a boost controller is not needed because you can set what psi you want in the tune.

read the post, he has a tune.

yea, and hence thats why i said a MBC is not needed. Alot of people on evom were having the same promblem and it was because the mbc.

Yes, because of a mbc and no tune. The tune fixes the issue with the mbc one of two ways, either using the ecu to control boost, or to stop the cel light from coming on if you are still using a mbc. I haven't seen anyone who got a tune still having issues with the CEL. For instance, I have a buschur tune and i'm still using a mbc, no CEL.

I guess, but i dont understand the reason to have an MBC when you are gonna get or have a tune. Since the tune uses the factory boost solenoids this promblem wont happen, ya know, just my .02 cents.

you dont need that MBC. as soon as i get my tune its comming off. i also think it has something to do with the MBC. this just happened to me today and i pulled over and turned down the boost and all was good. i have the codes on another thread. just check the new threads and its there

you gotta ask them if they did everything in their tune for you MBC not to throw a code for overboost. overboost to limp mode. sounds like thats what your car is doing. tell them to get it right in their parameters they did for you

how many of you have actually experienced limp mode? just curious
