I emailed a work colleague from Japan last week and sent him a photo of the dark grey Evo X. He wrote back today and said he will go and test drive the Evolution X in Nagayo next week. I will report back in this thread his findings about the car.

He was really cool when he found out I was interested in Japanese sports cars. We were in this product seminar a couple weeks back in Ohio and he wrote down on a notepad the history of the Skyline, complete with little sketches along with a development timeline and motor sport history. I'd consider the new GTR but I want a four or five door right now.

Update: Here is the test drive report from my Japanese co-worker! Please do not mind the language, you will get the drift.

---------------------------------------

By the way, I had tested Lancer Evolution X, yesterday.
Blue body color was shiny and very cool!
The amount of money is 4.0 million in Japanese Yen. (Now 117.5 JPY to CAD)
As you know, Mitsubishi has many options, so it's nothing to say, it will cost to select many options^^.

>My impressions....as below
(Type:GSR Trasmission:5MT,Tyre:22or45/40/18 and RHD)
Engine: More torqueful than the ever model, and high frexible engine, therefore, easy to drive in town toraffic!
Also, very fast!
Body rigidty:Excellent as high performance car.
Suspention:Nothing to say, I felt very hard. especially low speed,it will fit for high speed area.
Dashpanel: it is not bad, there is little squeak noise. Speedmeter is up to 300km!!!
Transmission:very sporty. The cruch is very light than ever models.Mitsubishi made it in special design this time.
Seat and head room: Good RECARO seat (untired and fit for sports driving) in front, and softy back seat(easy to child!)
These head and foot room has enough,so you may use daily use.

Finally, ignoring hardness,and costs(Tyre,Gas,,,^^),
Lancer Evolution X will be good partner! All mighty!

Now, Impreza STI dose not sale in Japan yet. May be March on 2008.
This week, The Tokyo motor show will be held.and I'll go it.
A new GTR and STI (studymodel) will be shown. I do expect these cars.

-----------------------------------------

Thank you to Jin! It is interesting that they have separate cars for test driving (see the attached image). I hope I will hear more from him after he sees the show. Hope you enjoyed this first hand report. BTW, my co-worker drives a Renault Clio!

I too would feel very hard if i were to test drive it. :jk: :)

Thanks Soopah! I am glad this car has become more of a daily driver but hasn't lose too much of the edge of being an evolution :afro:

I'm hoping that is the feeling this car provides. Maybe I won't need the stick after all... though one should always keep two hands on the wheel. I guess an extra 100 lb for a pretty passenger will be OK...nudge nudge...wink wink.

100 lb? What if i were on the track?! too much weight my friend! I found an aftermarket one, much lighter IMO!

Not a bad review. Thanks for posting. What about the SST when it comes out next month? Is he gonna test drive that one?

I don't want to pester the guy with test drive requests! He does have a day job :) If he does drive one I'll ask for his review. I also want him to try out the STI when it lands in the dealerships over there.

they already are...Subaru coincided the release with the debut at tokyo...NASIOC already had a japanese member who test drove and wrote a review of the new STi...I think if you go to the edmunds.com inside line tokyo motor show blog the write up about the STi has a link to the guy's review...

Couldn't track down the review link, can you post it? I'll have to let him know the STi is available now.
