: GT5 vs Forza 2

So i just recently bit the bullet an bought GT5P along with a G25 logitech wheel. I absolutely love racing sims so after hearing so much about GT5P i decided to go for it. I've been playing Forza basically non-stop since it came out on the 360 with the wireless wheel and its been great fun.

Now that i've had a chance to play both (2 days of GT under my belt) i'm feeling somewhat disappointed in Gran turismo so i figured i would post up here for the heck of it. So in no particular order:

Dislikes:
- In career mode, the races feel scripted in Gt since you start out in a given position for the race, or in the races where you have to pass all the cars on the high speed ring, the cars do the same thing, every time.
- no ability to mod right off the bat is annoying, at least let me fiddle with tire pressures or turn abs on/off
- no damage at all. makes the race into bumper cars even with just the AI players.
- If i want full manual control including clutch, i have to hit the green triangle at the start of every race. WHY CAN'T I DEFAULT THIS &$#*&

Likes:
- pseudo-support for the G25. This wheel is fantastic and can be used in GT5P by setting up the buttons for the Driving Force Pro wheel under options.
- The graphics are top notch.
- Interior view is sweet.
- The tracks feel more life like than forza which i think is saying A LOT. The suzaka circuit is even more fun in GT than it is in forza. Wish they had Laguna Seca though.
- physics of the cars when you have them on the edge / drifting feels more life like. Definetly a lot harder to reign in a GT-R once it lets go than say evo IX or the RSX.

#1 like: heel-toe down shifting in my living room. I may be a geek that loves video games, but I love it more when it lets me do something like that!

Thats all i can think of for now. Haven't tried online yet as i'm still working through single player stuff. It's fun so far, but i'm just a little underwhelmed. I really think that coming from Forza and some of the added depth that it had with car mod's, setting brake bias, actual damage to your car etc is what makes me feel let down in GT. I think some of this will be "fixed" in the full GT which is slotted for '09 or '10. Some rumor has it there may be damage coming, though i don't know if this will be cosmetic only, or if it will impact the actual performance of the car.

How do you guys feel about it?

I love Forza 2 I can however not say the same thing for GT5. In Forza 2 there are many more options and in my personal opinion has a better feel for controls, sound, etc... over GT5. The GT series is ok but it gets old and boring after awhile as its the same ol crap with no real upgrades to do. I still play Forza 2 and its been out forever or so it seems. Its in my top 3 favorite games on 360.

I have a PS3 and 360 and will NOT buy GT5 as I just think it leaves alot to be desired. Graphics are great but overall game play, modifications, sound, etc... lack IMO.

I agree with the point from above. I just wish I could import the geaphic from GT5 into the game play of forza 2. I will give forza the win for game play. GT5 graphics and the behind the dash view do rock though

More of a review on the G25!!! lol, planning on buying that in a little while. Heard nothing but good things about it but I'm just not getting into racing sims and want to know from someone besides the newegg posts.

Although, I don't know why i'm worried. I have the G5, G15 and love them. The z5500 speakers which i think are better then the bose speakers/denon amp that my gf's dad gave us to use for our home theater. I have used their webcams and universal remote. Logitech makes by far the best computer peripherals. It's liek your getting something 3-4times it's price and it still outperformers. Logitech is the reason I will never own a Mac. lol.

Sorry, I love logitech.

Ha, i'm loving the G25 so far. Not enough seat time to really give it a thorough review though. DEFINITELY a step up from the 360 wireless wheel. Thats a big plus so far for me. The wheel has different pistons for the gas, brake and clutch pedals so thats really cool. Very solidly built for the pedal and wheel unit. The gear shifter part feels a bit weak in comparison though.

Some negatives are that the USB cable from the wheel to the ps3 is only about 8 ft long. the other is that there are so many wires. Theres the power, the usb, the pedals to the wheel and the gear shifter to the wheel. Rats nest waiting to happen.

The motor for the force feed back is great, leather wheel is nice, clamps work great. Overall pretty happy with the unit, but now i need to pick up some computer racing sims to see how the drivers work with comp. games.

Oh, also this wheel *HAS* to be mounted. There is no way your gonna hold this on your lap FYI.

sandman: i concur. i think i would take all of Forza, steal G25 support, the tracks and the graphics and that would be the game.

Got more time in with GT5p last night and man, the more i play this the more disappointed i become in the single player / career mode. I just beat a track where you have to pass all the cars in one lap by bouncing off the walls so i didn't have to use the brake. Yea, thats real good there guys, way to keep those physics real there. So sad.

I'm going to try online play sometime this weekend, i hope to god that makes this all worth while. Otherwise i'm starting a letter writing campaign to add g25 support to Forza.
