: exhaust
gixxer 10-01-2008, 02:29 AM Can anyone help me out here. What is the best bank for the buck when it comes to an exhaust system. Is there any major differences between brands and is it necessary to buy a quality type exhaust that has for example a better and thicker quality of stainless steel.
Is it worth also changing the downpipe and test pipe ? Is the sound going to be too loud ?
Or is putting a Catback sufficient.
I'm looking for a deep sound but not too loud, slightly louder than stock would be fine.
I love the sound of the nissan 350Z, I find that these cars has one of the best sounds out there and they come like that bone stock.
PLEASE HELP !!!!!
Greddy spectrum elite. Not out yet.
Also T1R looks like its coming out with a good one.
Um...depends...do you want a full turboback system? or just the catback? Also it depends if it is worth changing the test pipe and downpipe....you will see gains, and the sound will be louder because your eliminating the cat converters. So it is basically a personal preference decision.

It is, but when there's not many threads out there and not that much exhaust options for our cars, its just pointless lol.

If you want something quiet that makes good power, get the "quiet muffler" option on the Buschur Racing cat back exhaust. Mine sounds good, and makes great power, but is very mild in the noise department. If you like a bit more sound and some additional HP gains you can swap in a test pipe (track use only of course) :D

jrod@buschur 10-01-2008, 01:34 PM Have you checked out our system yet? Our catback sells for $850 shipped in the lower 48 states. Here are a few threads on our 2 versions.

joshesevo22 10-01-2008, 01:59 PM The ETS system is pretty deep but its really loud also, so you prob wouldnt want it if you dont like lowd exhausts. theres clips on youtube that shows how it sounds

What is the cost for the catback? The sound is amazingl, was that only the catback sound on that car?
Is it worth putting a downpipe and a testpipe? Are the gains significant?
Last but not least how much for the catback system and is brand name a HKS ?
thanks,

Here you go, this is the exact same system as I have.

Well downpipe and test pipe will probably give you better gains than the exhaust and for less money but if you like the tone of it the exhaust will net some decent gains. I personally like the UR setup. Better quality than the Buschur, looks better and about same price. If you have a bit more budget, Agency Power has a really sweet looking setup or the new Greddy dual is nice as well (and probably the quietest option).

Hey Dan,
You are still living in the Subaru world with that statment... With subarues the majority of the exhaust restriction was befor the cat back section (pre turbo, downpipe with pre-cat, main cat) With the Mitsubishi's our downpipe does not have a cat in it, and cat itself is not very restrictive compared to some factory units, so they have never been the big restrictions on Mitsubishi's like they were on the Subarus. From the factory, Mitsubishi's always have a heavy restrictive muffler section.
Our biggest gains are from the cat back exhaust, followed by a test pipe... then minor gains from a downpipe, better gains from a downpipe that includes the turbo outlet elbow.
Keith
Actually on the EVO X the biggest gains I've see are with the O2 housing/downpipe and test pipe combo compared to just a cat back. I'm sorry I meant O2 housing/downpipe when I said downpipe. Forgot to clarify. I have the UR O2 housing, downpipe and test pipe with stock exhaust at the moment and WAY better gains than the AMS cat back exhaust I used to have (which I have since removed and sold since I want a dual exhaust).
