: Sst acting up on normal driving

So yea tonight i was turning onto the parkway coming home from my girls house and to my surprise when i gassed my car to merge it hesitated and starting acting up. whenever i would gas in d6(lightly) it would downshift to d5 for 2 seconds and then back to d6. each shift is very firm and it slows down and then "bangs" a shift (mind you this is in normal mode).

when slowing down in normal mode it usually takes the SST a lot of time before a downshift but this just downshifts and bangs gears like its in s sport mode.

Obviously, there is something majorly wrong here. I plan to pull my cel that came up tomorrow to find out what the ecu says it is.

Yeah, let us know what's going on. I'm waiting for a tune to see some longer term results from those that are already tuned.

hope it's not P1890 .. It's transmission slipping ..

Thats what we pulled from my friend's car when that happened ..

Goodluck !!

so on the way out this mourning to do my day off things. i noticed my cel was still on but the tranny was shifting and driving fine during warm up and then when it got to operating temp it also was fine. i got gas and oddly my cel went away.(it was not a gas cap cel if your wondering lol) i also "romped" on it a little and no issues to report. i went to autozone and pulled the code.

P1235 manufactor controlled fuel air metering or something like that.? that would cause the tranny to buck lol?

This is very odd since it was acting weird last night with a cel, and totaly fine today. I guess i will have to play this by ear and wait for it to act up again.

I don't know if it would be too odd. I would think that the, and I'll use these terms broadly, "engine" would talk to the "transmission" and if anything seemed out of whack to the engine it would communicate to the transmission in order to save it.
Just my idea...

I have a semi similar problem, when i'm slowing down to make a turn and gas it, for some reason it just grabs a lower gear. When it happens i keep thinking i got rear ended. As for the down gearing part, if i'm in 6th gear and starts to slow down, it still stays in 6, but when the car comes to almost a full stop it jumps from 6 to 2, so i really hope it's nothing serious and it's something they can fix with a update.

are u in normal auto or manual?
grab lower gear when slowing down sounds normal. but the 2nd senario, 6-> 2gear, did u use the brake? or u just let it roll?

I'm in normal auto, lets say i'm doing 100km then i step on the brakes and my speed dips to 40 going lower, it still stays at 6th gear until i'm in the turn and just about to gas it, i see 6 turns into 2. When i just got the car, it use to gear down for me when i'm slowing down, but not anymore. I learn to live with it for now and hope there might be a fix for it in the distance future.

When I'm coming to a stop it will hold whatever gear I'm in (let's just say its 6th at about 60 mph) and then wait to start downshifting until about ~25mph. Then if I begin to accelerate again it will shift down and select a gear (maybe 2nd or 3rd, depending on how quickly I accelerate). Is this somewhat similar to what you're experiencing?

thats weird, mine shift one gear down at a time when the speed go down..., only have 6->2 when in short stopping distance.

When the car was stock, it use to downshift in normal auto. From 6-5-4-3-2 then i would gas it to make a turn, but now when i slow down all it does is 6th gear... go into a turn then 2nd gear just appears on the dash and sometimes it's not a grabbing feeling, more like a, i got rear ended type feeling.

That happened to me 2-3 times as well, and my car is 100% stock. Basically, when you let your car roll in 6th gear and make a turn, then gas it as you exit the turn, if it happens that the computer was about to downshift for you automatically (ie: from 6th to 2nd), you may run into this "omg did i just got rear ended" bang. This was when I was in auto mode.

Nowadays I do manual mode most of the time so I don't see this on my car anymore but yes, it'd be nice to have a fix for this.

6 to 2 is normal if you decelerate especially as you approach around 20-30kmh and you release the brakes..

I initially found it on the mitsu tech info web site when I signed up for a 24hr
access pass ($20) to grab info on the SST and CANBus info/software.

There was a link posted a while back to the X's service manual pdf that has all of the info on both the 5SPD and the SST. (I think it was on evom).

Edit: Here's the mitsu tech info site link: https://www.mitsubishitechinfo.com/epacarb/
