Living in Vancouver/Surrey/Richmond we have a large population of people of Indian descent. Their movies are pretty much all musicals (heard of Bollywood?) and these scenes are par for the course. Just like explosions and car chase scenes are typical in Hollywood action movies.

But, yes, they are freaking hilarious! :)
