: Talked to the dealership today
Tvall13 11-01-2007, 07:02 PM I went to the dealership near me in Pittsburgh to talk about the Evo. The guy said that they all the dealerships were only getting one in and they weren't taking pre-orders. He also said that they were not gonna sell that car they were gonna keep it around as a show car because they wouldn't be getting more in for a while after that. Talk about some bullshit.
Kooldino 11-01-2007, 07:08 PM I wouldn't buy that. Badboy will tell you otherwise.
Rosshole 11-01-2007, 07:11 PM "we are gonna make a special edition car that is so special that you can't have one"
_Chris_ 11-01-2007, 07:17 PM Dealers will be getting 1-2 cars initially. All depends on each dealer's sales number last year.
But it is bullshyt that you said that they are not taking preorders.
jred321 11-01-2007, 08:00 PM i bet you could find a dealership that does want your money
Rosshole 11-01-2007, 08:13 PM werd^
The thought that they won't take your money is ridiculous.
Tvall13 11-01-2007, 08:42 PM Yeah I'm going out to the one thats about 40 mins away my buddy works there. It's a bigger place but this one I went to today is like 5 mins from my house so I had to check it out first.
DaemonSadi 11-01-2007, 08:45 PM Hopefully my dealership dude isn't totally oblivious to the situation... He seems a little clueless though... Asked me If I'd be interested in a regular 08 Lancer instead....
But He says they should get a couple and is checking on order status right now...
Wish me luck!
_Chris_ 11-01-2007, 11:37 PM I went to the dealership near me in Pittsburgh to talk about the Evo. Did you get dates?
Tvall13 11-02-2007, 12:10 AM I was told he was getting a Red GSR late Jan early Feb, but he doesn't know the options packages and he said they probably won't even sell that one just keep it as a show car for a while. He's calling me when they get that in. I'll come test drive the shit outta that one then buy a nice new fresh one.:godance:
_Chris_ 11-02-2007, 11:26 AM Thats what I was told. The 1-2 initial cars to arrive are GSRs. Arriving late Jan. Preordered cars will arrive in FEB.
MDMitsuX 11-02-2007, 06:37 PM how many times are we gonna go over this?? the dealer lied to you...there are dealers on this site who have already ordered 6 or more because they have a higher sales volume than other dealers...and that shit about not selling you the car is just that...shit...they probably already have someone buying it that's why he said he was gonna "keep" it
and he does know what packages and options he's getting because I saw the dealer link web page (where dealers order their mitsubishis) at the dealership where I worked...it was for a graphite gray gsr with SSS package...5 sp...all of it...go to the dealership where your friend works (as long as he's in the sales department), and he should be able to give you more answers...

Talk to the sales manager or general manager of the dealership, they will know, as MDMitsuX has said. However, if you only talked to a lowly sales person (I can say that, I used to be one) some dealerships prefer that their sales people know next to nothing, all they want are order takers that can handle people's objections and get them into the dealership and into a chair. Sometimes sales people don't even know how to work the numbers, that is handled by the sales manager in his office, keeping the customer in the dark about the whole sacred process.
I liked it when I worked for MINI, we had the knowledge, the tools, and the responsibility to sell cars from the greeting to the negotiation to the taking of the deposit. We knew as much, and sometimes more, than the sales manager, about what new models were coming, what options and colours were available, what rebates and lease rates were, etc.
soopah 11-02-2007, 07:18 PM it was for a graphite gray gsr with SSS package...5 sp
Hey, that's my car!!! I've been thinking the Phantom Black Pearl is another excellent choice. Is that only available for the MR?
soopah 11-02-2007, 07:25 PM I was told he was getting a Red GSR late Jan early Feb, but he doesn't know the options packages and he said they probably won't even sell that one just keep it as a show car for a while. Stop talking to that guy! Go in to the dealership, straight to reception, and ask to speak with the sales manager, and if he is unavailable, ask to speak to the general manager. Let him know what you want and that you are seriously interested in buying a car. He should give you the straight goods. Eventually he may still refer you to a sales person, but hopefully one that is much more knowledgeable about the Evolution X. Take control, you are the customer, the one with money in your pocket, and the dealership needs to take it from you. Use your power. But know that once they have your money, you lose much of that power.
EVOXCO 11-02-2007, 07:29 PM Just tell them you want to order one and put money on the tabel. They like money lol. I ordered mine in red and put money on it.They are able to tell you what they are getting in just go to a different dealer.
TriStateEvo 11-02-2007, 08:03 PM Some of the kung-fu tactics that my competing dealerships use are just plain laughable. The pompous attitude might work for a Buggati or Ferrari dealership, but when you're dealing with straight up people, you should treat them straight up. That's how I handle my business and is why my dealership is #12 nationwide in an off-the-map town in Northern New Jersey. I'm not here to run a parking lot. I'm here to get the best cars possible to the best customers possible at the best deals possible. Unfortunately, for the Lancer Evolution, the supply-demand laws do come into effect and a lack of product does tend to jack the pricing up. Think of it as a triangle area graph where the midpoint of the triangle would show how many people would buy the car at MSRP. As you go down in price, you go down the triangle and the customer base widens exponentially. But as you go up, it narrows out, but notice it is still there up until the apex. What MMNA dealerships are hoping for is to capture that highest point on the triangle with the Evo. But as I am in management, volume is the name of the game for me. Each unit sold is one more notch on the belt that I report to Mitsubishi on a monthly basis. Want a customer who respects and responds well? Treat them with some courtesy and give them the info they need to make an educated decision. That's what the name of the game is. It's sad that the car industry relies so much on mental manipulation to make a sale. It used to be that a proper presentation of the value, performance, safety, reliability and connection of a car to a customer was enough to make them sign on the dotted line.
Tvall13 11-02-2007, 08:53 PM I called up the place my friend works at. They have a white (my first choice) GSR coming in fully loaded and can be Pre-ordered so i'm probably going to go that route. Thanks a lot guys. I'll let you know the details soon.
ak47m203 11-02-2007, 09:04 PM As of now all of this dealership is having an In service in selling this new Evo. They have their national goal to suck all our hard earned money in their MSRP, hidden charges etc etc. They are all liars. We have to outsmart them. I posted something about it. We should be prepare for this suckers.
_Chris_ 11-03-2007, 09:27 PM Just tell them you want to order one and put money on the tabel. They like money lol. I ordered mine in red and put money on it.They are able to tell you what they are getting in just go to a different dealer.
Oh hey, welcome to the forums!
EVOXCO 11-04-2007, 04:59 PM Oh hey, welcome to the forums!
Thanks it good to be welcome I dont know if I can wait to get the new car but I guess I dont have a choice LOL
Tvall13 11-05-2007, 11:49 PM Ok well the dealership my buddy works at has a white GSR with the SSS package, which includes the aero package sunroof and the other things mentioned in the other threads. All i have to do is put a fully refundable $500 deposit down. Going there Thursday to finalize it:godance:
silvreclipse 11-05-2007, 11:59 PM once i get back i'll go to check out mcginnis mitsubishi i have a friend there and see what they will be getting soon.they are pretty good and accurate when it comes to inventory and what they will be getting.
cksdayoff 11-06-2007, 12:59 AM so it seems like the MR version will be released atleast a month after the GSR launches in the states?
i figured that since mitsubishi was still testing and putting the finishing touches on the SST in japan, that both the mr and gsr would see a simultaneous release in the states...guess not.
Tvall13 11-06-2007, 02:32 AM I was told by every dealership I talked to that the first cars they were getting in were all going to be GSRs.:hitit:
soopah 11-06-2007, 03:36 AM May as well put down your deposit and that way you can keep a place in line when they finally get some MRs coming in. Sounds like most pre-orders are for MRs, though.
_Chris_ 11-06-2007, 07:49 AM I was told by every dealership I talked to that the first cars they were getting in were all going to be GSRs.:hitit:
Same here. First batches will be GSRs.
jred321 11-06-2007, 01:58 PM do we know yet if they're actually going to be called GSRs this time or is that what people are calling the non-RS/MR ones again?
wickedchimp 11-07-2007, 06:52 PM I talked to the sales manager (I think his name was David)at Don Herring Mitsubishi in Plano last friday. He told me that they were getting 5 or 6 GSRs in estimated late january. He said that have already taken a few deposits for the MR that has an estimated arrival date of late february but have not taken any deposits on the GSRs.

Welcome to the forums. MRs seems quite popular around here.
Ive heard the same... the MRs comes out a month after the GSRs.
MDMitsuX 11-09-2007, 03:31 AM so it seems like the MR version will be released atleast a month after the GSR launches in the states?

I was thinking the same thing considering the SST was scheduled for release a month after the RS's and non-SST GSR's in Japan...that would be this month...I'm not worried about it though...I think a few members on this site have already ordered MR's...I've been in contact with my old sales manager (I sold mitsus all summer) and I'm going in tomorrow to try and finalize some things...get some info straight from dealer link...and get an MR order in...don't worry...I'll keep everyone posted :afro:
_Chris_ 11-22-2007, 12:05 PM Latest update...
I spoke to my dealer in person yesterday. He had the Mitsu rep on the speaker phone and confirmed the delivery date of the SST as 'late feb'.

:) :) :)
though, i won't believe it until i see it, lol
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 12:46 PM I haven't spoken to my sales guy since I dropped the deposit off for my order, but I would hope he would call me w any news of delays. He was pretty helpful and said he would call as he learned anything new. But if I haven't heard from him by the time of the Toronto car show in mid Feb, I'll be calling him..
soopah 11-22-2007, 01:46 PM That time line, delivery in late February, is not really a delay. I thought we were expecting to only get the GSR for the first couple months anyway.
BTW, your avatar sucks! :jk:
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 01:50 PM I know, I know. I whipped that one up and then saw it was the same as yours but every time I remember, I am at work so I can't resize another one and upload it as they are funny about new software being added so I can't use Irfanview.
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 01:52 PM And as long as I get my car before the Summer, I'm happy. If they get one per month from Jan or Feb onwards, I'm good to go as I'm the fourth preorder.
soopah 11-22-2007, 02:28 PM I'm looking at April, just have to decide a couple months ahead to ensure I can put my name on an incoming unit.
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 04:00 PM I wouldn't wait, brother. There will only be 500 total for Canada for 08. They estimate approx. 5000 ppl will want one..
soopah 11-22-2007, 04:20 PM I wouldn't wait, brother. There will only be 500 total for Canada for 08. They estimate approx. 5000 ppl will want one..
I heard a similar number but more, maybe 600 or slightly more. The manufacturer can make more profit per sold Evo in Canada than they do in the US, and if they sell well they may increase the number allocated to Canada.
Anyway, I've had a deposit at my local dealership since July 16, 2007, they are still working through a couple deposits that are ahead of me that also want manual (I thought I was first a couple months back but the sales manager said my salesperson mispoke!!! Games, games, games.). There were also other deposits ahead of me that indicated they wanted the MR SST, but they could change their mind if there is a significant delay (to next fall as per the rumours). I think I will be in good shape to get one for April. If I have to wait another month, to May, that will be OK. If I get it early by a month that would be nice, too!
Jackygor 11-22-2007, 05:34 PM Hahaha, for the longest time I thought Soopah was talking to himself...hahaha
_Chris_ 11-22-2007, 06:13 PM One of em needs to change avatars...hehe
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 06:42 PM I'll do it when I get home where I have Irfanview. I can't live w this either. I'm too original for that. Haha!
soopah 11-22-2007, 07:09 PM At least I know I picked a good one! They say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
LowUFO 11-22-2007, 08:46 PM Totally unintentional. But it is a good one. There. I've picked one that can't be mistaken for an EVO, thats for sure.
soopah 11-22-2007, 09:42 PM Ha ha, nice one. I never was a fan of the gold rims, and I'm still not.
Saotome9 11-22-2007, 09:49 PM I cant wait to get my evo x mr
soopah 11-22-2007, 09:52 PM I cant wait to get my evo x mr
But you will..............
EVOXCO 11-22-2007, 09:58 PM I cant wait to get my evo x mr
I am with you on that one. I am going nuts just waiting for the price LOL.
Saotome9 11-22-2007, 10:40 PM after seeing the mod capabilities of the x mr, forget about it.
_Chris_ 11-23-2007, 05:50 PM I cant wait to get my evo x mr
:+1:
The waiting is killing me. Here I am back at home and still having to wait another 2-3 months.
silvreclipse 11-24-2007, 02:46 AM :+1:

damn same here mid january they said here but its still not close enough.
wickedchimp 11-29-2007, 08:27 PM I talked to a guy at lewisville mitsubishi on monday. He called me because I was on a contact list for the evo information. He said that they should be recieving their first 3 GSRs by the end of the year. They will be getting 2 Red and 1 Graphite. He was trying to get me to come in and make a deposit on one of them. I really want a white one though.
TriStateEvo 11-29-2007, 10:45 PM chimp,
I got a white one in-bound. You can have it. Take the trip up and break it in on the drive home. =).
TeamEvo 11-30-2007, 12:50 AM waiting may be a blessing
if the GSR comes out and falls on it's face preformance wise the way some people are predicting it could save you from making an expensive MR mistake ...
