Looks like the Accessport may be getting closer to getting here. I am interested especially since Perrin tunes with Accessport and Email maps. The AP does data logging.

awesome! I was told to go open source when I switched from sti to evo but since the AP can log data and Perrin does email maps this could work out pretty nice. I'm excited!

It sounds like its going to control all aspects of the ECU, and you can carry around several maps in your glove box. Anyone know exactly how many maps the AP can hold? I want stock, 91oct, 93oct, and 101oct maps for the car.

You know Cobb opened a satellite facility in Dallas? They are like 2.5 hours away from you. They also have a dyno.

Sweet I just looked it up. Thanks for the info. I did not think any tuning facilities was within 8 hours of me. I am going to give them a call today!!!!!!!!

Yepp verry soon! Ill be going AP! Gonna set it up like a Ipod dock and have maps on the fly! also reads your check engine codes, data logs, gives 1/4 mile and 0-60 (although I do not think its accurate just like the Gtech was'nt)
great little tool!

If you guys wanna know how soon its coming out I actually have a true idea. Im headed to the shop in Plano, Tx Dec 13th for a custom tune with the AP. How do you like those apples. Im pumped as hell for this Dyno charts are soon to come. I hope I make over 310 whp with my current mods. This is awsome when I get a turbo as well I just have to drive down to dallas.

There's a vendor on evom that said early December, so i guess is possible. I just want to see what the base map they will offer will make the x run like. If it offers 300 all around and the ability to flash back and forward and custom tune, im in.

this sounds like a really good idea. i just didnt think it would be out anytime soon

dcasandman
11-22-2008, 11:42 PM
^^I didnt think it would be out either until I called today, and the guy told me he could tune my X in plano. I asked with what since AP isnt out, and he told me the AP. Then he said he slipped and shouldnt have told me that lol. Ill post dyno pics when I get back from having it done.

They really need to lower the price of the AP to make it more enticing.

dcasandman
11-23-2008, 12:03 AM
^Its really not that bad it does alot. It will monitor engine management, pull SES codes, and tune your car all in one. Plus you can have all the tunes you want sitting in your glove box just about. As long as its a comprehensive tuning system I dont think it cost to much.

LVSBB6
11-23-2008, 12:05 AM
i think is actually not too expensive considering what it is capable of.

ECUFlash....which is nearly out and some people already have does 80% of what the AP does...and it only cost $160 to buy the cable, and 30 seconds of your time to download the program. The logging that the AP does will be available very soon too in the program.

Im not trying to sound like a ecuflash fanboi (which i am, lol)..im trying to save you all money!

True but ECUflash is not a easy to deal with as AP. Think about it, you get it all. With ECUflash you need a laptop. I know i know, but they both have their ups and down. I just hope that they don't price themself out of the market.

Today i sat outside with my laptop, surfed evoxforums, modified my map, and uploaded it to my car.:p

Did you call Blouch and FP see if they can hook you up, tell them you might be the first X with CoBB AP, they might make an exception for you. I rather you do stock turbo to see what the AP can do, but hey that's just me. Please keep us updated and post pics when you get a chance.

Rguy, i know it all sounds simple, but come on you have a little PDA side device plug it in and push a few buttons and your done. And i and not sure, but you can upload other flashes like valet so the car will run low boost and such. ;).

I might get ECUflash but is not out yet, and even then it will not be all free. You have to buy other stuff(same with AP)

I talked to Force Performance just on Wed I think. I am probably going to go with the FP Red, but no quite ready yet. I thought I would be driving all the way to Chicago for a tune and March and have AMS do evrything at once, but since I can drive down to dallas and get my car worked on while the wife shops, Im good for a tune right now. I still will probably take the car down for a re-tune with a new turbo though in March sometime. I have to wait till after I get my taxes done this year and get through the holidays before I buy the turbo. I have a feeling Ill be paying a huge amount to the government this year.

Congrats on getting a tune. I have been looking for a shop to tune me and I wanted an AP so I guess I will try to head up to dallas pretty soon. I was suppose to be in dallas the 11 and 12 for a class but it got cancelled. Keep us posted because I leave for a month long class in Florida on Jan 12 and i would like to get a tune before I head down there.

Ill be there the 12th and 13th. Going to let the kids and wife shop and hang out at Great Wolfe Lodge while the Evo becomes all she can be. That is on the stock turbo anyway.

Grand opening was today.

DCsandman, ever been on ok-speed.com or oksc.org? There are some knowledgable people in your area. You'd be surprised... just no ECUtek tuners in OK.

dcasandman
11-23-2008, 02:08 AM
Ya there are some great speed shops here just no eccutek tuners or AWD dynos. There are a couple of honda shops here that have 7 and 8 sec civics. They put on my turbo back.

So lets say I buy the accessport from Cobb ,and then I decide I like what some other tuners maps are producing will I then be able to download them? As long as they are compatible with the Accessport? Do i have this right? Sorry newb here.

Usually who ever you buy the AP from the maps are free, and the cobb one will always be there. A custom tune will always cost some cash. I bet you can purchase all other companies maps as well if you want like Perrins, Dynoflash, or aother tuners maps.

Will answer a few questions people are unsure of about Cobb. You can have a tuner load on a protune. I had AP on my WRX and Al flashed a tune on at Buschers. As far as how many, not sure I had 5 maps. Right now Al is offering to ship AP with a tune from him downloaded for 695 shipped. Maperformance is also shipping them, but 625 shipped. Dcasandman you should still get your protune down the road from AMS. Let them install DP/O2 combo, turbo, and tune it. They have the larger feul injectors and fuel rail which you will probably be wanting to replace with a larger turbo. AP holds value and can be resold later, sold my previous one on EBAY in less than 3 hours for a buy it now price 550. I paid 695.00 new.

^Im getting a custom tune at Cobb in Dallas, and Ill probably just stick with my downpipe from Perrin.

11-30-2008, 10:27 PM
I saw your getting a tune with the mods you have now. I was referring to when you go bigger turbo. You might have a place to install all the necessary upgrades for a bigger turbo, since you dont do it yourself. But, it would be nice to have it all done in 1 place at 1 time, thus I said AMS, your previous choice

dcasandman
11-30-2008, 10:35 PM
^Does AMS tune with the AP though? You dont think that Cobb in Dallas couldnt do the turbo upgrade and everything at once? They seem to be pretty well versed in turbo cars STI, and GTR.

lwevert

I'm sure Cobb would be able to install and tune your car for a bigger turbo.

im considering ordering from al, but my question is.... what is the difference between his own map and a base stage 1 map? also will a drop-in filter benefit me more on either one?

^From previous reviews of AP that I have read, the Cobb base maps tend to be very conservative if you are looking for some higher power. That is not always a bad thing, because it will probably be safe. Not trying to answer for Al, but Im sure his will be a little more agressive and he has already tuned alot of Xs by now with Eccutek.

Did Cobb ever mention if the ECU records that you reflash with the AP? I'm curious if it does...

Td66
12-01-2008, 04:36 PM
Dcasandman its obviously your choice whom you choose to go with tuning your car. AMS does have the parts you will need, the know how, and experience with previous evo X tuning. Cobb OTS tunes are way conservative. Al tuned my WRX after I had Cobb stg 2 and pulled 26 more hp more than the Cobb! I like the features of Cobb and most likely get it soon! But the end result is FP turbo and AMS goodies to boot. Thus, I will take the drive to AMS or Buschurs to get Al to tune.

has the factory turbo limits been truely proven though ( talking about upgrading turbos etc). There are a couple of guys on there that say they are on factory turbos still and are still cranking out large numbers... :S I wonder if Cobb might have some rough threshold numbers for their customers to tune to.. let us know if you find out.

^^^Ill be down there in a couple of weeks. I will ask lots of questions. This is about as excited as I have been about the car since I got it. I agree though. Im probably going to wait till next year for the turbo. Wait till I get bored with the increased power from the tune. I really would like a 400whp X though. One that can be driven all day long and at the track.

Well i installed my AP and HKS drop in... the car is much smoother, i don't have weird jerks at 2500 RPM anymore, 5th gear while cruising. Low to mid power, it feels a tad faster but once the little dirty whore hits higher RPM 3rd and 4th, she keeps pulling like a champ.... i need more power out of her.
