: Dino's wheel thread
Kooldino 11-23-2008, 04:47 PM This spring, I'm going to put some aftermarket wheels on my car.
My preferences in a wheel:
-Have 5 holes for lug nuts, not 10 (some wheels have 10 so they can fit two bolt patterns).
-Have CENTER CAPS
-Have a smooth transition to the center of the wheel, not an abrupt "scooped out" center.
-19", but 18" are acceptable.
-Width: 8.5" (acceptable) - 9.5" (preferable)
-Relatively lightweight for their size
-Strong material, preferably forged
-Dark in color
-Priced within reason (no wheels that are $500 each)
Here's a few examples:
SSR Type F RS:
Good overall look, way too expensive ($637 each), a little too stockish, no center caps, and the center is too scooped out.
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/ssr/swap/ssr_typef_rs_b_ci3_l.jpg
TR MT1:
Good weight (19lbs for an 18x8.5), good look, good color, decent wheel center.
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/trm/swap/trm_mt1_lightgrey_ci3_l.jpg
WedsSport TC005:
Good weight (19lbs for an 18x8.5), good look, good color, decent wheel center, unique look.
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/wedssport/swap/weds_tc_005_gry_ci3_l.jpg
Advan RS 19x9.5:
These are damn good, but $600+ EACH!
http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/japan/wheel/brand/advan_rsb/image/wheel_2_2.jpg
So anyway, if you come across any wheels that you think may work for me, let me know!
dcasandman 11-23-2008, 05:04 PM Im a fan of the Gram Light 57Optimise 18x8.5 +33. I have found them for 1400 for all 4. I like the Time Attack Black version. Im with you though Probably going to do this spring with a turbo.
shabarivas 11-23-2008, 05:17 PM those weds look sick... + they seem to be on a crazy sale :p
davidiii 11-23-2008, 06:28 PM those weds look sick... + they seem to be on a crazy sale :p
agreed...those are awesome looking wheels IMO for the price...i thought i saw a deal on them in the previous SCC mag...
XevoX 11-23-2008, 06:32 PM How expensive are these? I'm thinking hefty, but I think they would look good.

http://www.5zigen.co.jp/english/products/wheel/proracer/ZR+520.html
The ZR+520 is a good pick, $250-300 per wheel too.
Only problem is if Dino wants lighter wheels; these weigh 28 lbs for 18's and the 19's weigh 31. :<
Kooldino 11-23-2008, 07:16 PM Holy heavy.
meat_EVO 11-23-2008, 07:44 PM forged 19's for less than 500 a piece. let me know if you find those!
XevoX 11-23-2008, 09:06 PM Yikes, had no idea they were that heavy...
i like the advans. really expensive but super nice
Jackygor 11-23-2008, 10:06 PM Advans, for looks a lightness...

Tvall13 11-24-2008, 01:03 AM i like the ultraleggers too but i dont know about geting 20s
You can get them in 18" or 19" i think the HLT ones are the ones that come in just 20"
Meh
How dare you Meh me...... My new suggestion is any type of HRE wheels then!:godance:
can you get 18s and 19s in black?
Tvall13 11-24-2008, 02:31 AM Yeah I think so, check out O.Z. website they have the sizes on there
Mr. Win 11-24-2008, 02:35 AM I see only one option... 6lbs.

gumby 11-27-2008, 02:33 AM Dino: 18x9 +22 Gunmetal Black Advan RS are perfect. I have them with 265/35/18 tires.
You won't regret them. Clothes maketh the man, wheels maketh the car.
Kooldino 11-27-2008, 05:22 AM You like the 18s over the 19s?
My reason for 19s is to be able to drop the car yet still have some ground clearance.

gumby 11-27-2008, 09:07 AM You like the 18s over the 19s?
My reason for 19s is to be able to drop the car yet still have some ground clearance.
Yes. For the following reasons:
1. Overall, 18s looks more "balanced" when compared with the size of the car. Once you drop the car, the wheels look just the right size. Pre-drop: 18s tend to look a little too small (personal opinion)
2. Tires are cheaper and more readily available. Makes sense if you plan on hitting the track (often). Seems like the more track-focused Evo Xs (Jun Auto, Test & Service) have 18s as well.
3. Ground clearance is fine. I was worried at first, but my car is dropped on Monoflexes and hasn't scraped once.

Too "scooped out" in the center, not modern enough.
dcasandman 12-11-2008, 07:01 PM I did PM Jason at Advspeed about a price on those WedsSport though. I really like them. Im in the same boat as you Dino. I really like the Advans as well, but dont want to pay that much per wheel. Best quote Ive gotten on the Advans is 527
dcasandman 12-12-2008, 08:20 PM Anyone know anything about wedssport quality?

LOL
dcasandman 12-12-2008, 08:51 PM I think Rdan needs these.
smith 12-13-2008, 01:06 AM thats worse than a 20" on an evo... or maby you should put a 20" one of those on an evo lmfao
Kooldino 12-13-2008, 01:20 AM http://tijil.org/pink_bear.jpg
I fear that the balance would be off for my high speed drifting with these.

I've seen a couple front and rear view pics of this badass Runduce Evo floating around. Anyone have any info of the size and offsets of those Advans on that car? I'm gussing they're 19's but curious about the width since the front offset is unlike what I've seen in the aggressive wheel threads on Advans.
kidneythief13 01-15-2009, 09:16 PM Did you ever decide on what wheels to get, Dino? I just got these today, but will have to wait until spring for install. BTW... they're AME Tracer FS-01 (18"x9" +25). thanks for the help w/offset choice FLK

Kooldino 01-15-2009, 10:00 PM @kidney - those are nice, but I think I'm going with the Advans at the top of page 6.

Dino, you went with gold? I can't decide between black or gold.
Kooldino 04-15-2009, 05:47 PM I did go with gold, which is totally unlike me.
I made my OEM wheels dark gray, so I wanted these to be different...and I love the way they stand out from the rest of the car.

Wow, that's quite the lip.
boostin20 04-17-2009, 04:07 PM Wow, that's quite the lip.
It's an 4" lip for the 18x9.0 and the wider the wheel, the larger the lip.
Kupkake 04-19-2009, 03:51 PM Rota G-Forces. Just like RS's
yah but but the RS's have better offsets then the G-forces. I'd get the G-forces if they had something like a +25 or a +20.

GoKimiGo! 04-22-2009, 05:45 PM Nice wheels! Whew, those are expensive. Hope you got the +10 offset.
Thanks. Nope I got +35. I dislike the concave look and it also hurts performance wise, staying near the +38 factory offset was a must for me. I also doubt that +10 would fit without spacers, I have heard that anything lower than +20 would have fitment issues.
