: 370Z 0-60 in 5.1 sec. [Discussion Merge]
ak47m203 11-25-2008, 10:57 PM There's so much tire grip that the engine almost bogs at the starting line, yet 60 mph comes up in just 5.1 seconds (4.9 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The new Z-car is no featherweight, as this test car's 3,359 pounds prove, but it does serious business, as the quarter-mile comes up in 13.4 seconds at 104.8 mph. It also comes to a stop from 60 mph in only 101 feet.

Acceleration Comments: Low-spin launches resulted in big bog. With so much rear grip and modest torque, it takes a ton of revs to get the rears to scratch and spin (about 5,000-5,500 rpm). Even so, they hook up pretty early on, so a bog is not far away. Pedals vibrate like crazy and the shifter only slightly less so. Shifts are much smoother and slicker than those of a 350Z. I like the short throws, especially good for the 2-3 shift. Power falls off slightly in upper revs. Not sure if it made a difference or not, but I got my best run with the shift mode in Sport (isn't that only for match-rev downshifts?). In this mode, however, when I popped it out of gear at the end of the quarter-mile, the engine zinged up to redline (it didn't do this in non-sport mode). Had to go to 4th gear for the quarter-mile. Loud, but not in a cool, sports car kind of way. Sounds labored and doesn't rev freely.
Handling Comments: Ever-so-slight understeer on the limit, but you can't drive through and kick the tail out. In the end, it just blazes around in total control with minor adjustments through throttle input. Slalom: Steering is still a little heavy for my liking, but it's WAY better than that of a 350Z. The car still feels heavy; however, shifting the palpable mass from side to side with a very flat attitude. What starts out feeling like a car with a potential to spin turns out to be quite trustworthy. Again, found mild understeer on the limit that was difficult to drive through. The car didn't manage the dip/hop at cone #3 well at all, making me late for cone #4. I had to get pretty deliberate with my inputs to manage rotation on the final cone, but it worked quite well. Don't know if it has one, but the 370Z sure feels like it has an LSD that keeps the slide predictable and controlled. I'm certain this car could get a quicker run on a flatter surface.
Braking Comments: Yep, it's got 'em all right. Firm pedal only gets rock hard under full ABS. Zero flutter or hum. Straight, short, fade-free. "Worst" stop was 105 feet. Near-zero idle stroke.

Enjoitk 11-25-2008, 11:25 PM for some reason im starting to like it.. but its nothing compared to my evo =]
lwevert 11-26-2008, 12:06 AM I think it looks pretty damn good and has some decent numbers for about the same price as a GSR.
MrPurpleEvo 11-26-2008, 12:16 AM i'm liking it more and more...the rear bumper is alright...but wow the numbers are pretty good...
kidneythief13 11-26-2008, 12:51 AM that headlight and that front mount is like a vampire fish...

ak47m203 11-26-2008, 04:08 AM motor trend has a better driver... even in zr1, they posted better number than edmunds.
do think nissan has underrated their motor again...this maybe running @ 350 at the crank.
Kooldino 11-26-2008, 04:56 AM Damn, impressive performance numbers!
ak47m203 11-26-2008, 05:07 AM Damn, impressive performance numbers!
another reason the rx8 should have their new revise. please more torque and faster time...
lwevert 11-26-2008, 02:42 PM yeah but can it seat four comfortably... X FTW!
99GSeX 11-26-2008, 04:53 PM 370z puts down the same numbers as 2008 BMW 135i
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0806_bmw_135_mitsubishi_evo_mr_comparison/specifications.html
on2it 11-26-2008, 07:31 PM nice numbers. not sure about the look, but Im sure a couple of aftermarket bodykits will sort it out. still would choose the x though. faster. 4 doors. 4wd.
shabarivas 11-26-2008, 09:14 PM It's still ugly.
Have you seen it in person? /comment....
I used to HATE it probably 100x more than you do... but i saw her sitting there in the Elk Grove auto mall nissan dealer last saturday... and my oh my... I would trade my G in for that in a heartbeat...

Iono about that lol... 332 sounds already kinda high... 350 w/ 20% loss = 280WHP... which is certainly very high... iono...
RGory477 11-26-2008, 10:23 PM nice number, i think the 350z looked better. To hatchback"ish" for me
ak47m203 11-27-2008, 12:50 AM really nice numbers, i look at gxp g8 test and the 370 z is still better inspite the gxp is 400plus hp. if you will look at the edmunds vidz, it chips on 2nd gear, wheels spin on first, the driver can really imporve his time if he lessen the errrrrr on first gear, now i want to see the vidz of motor trend, to see how they did 4.7sec. and the rev match on manual is really cool, another nissan first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4dzg7ZJ4B8
Jackygor 11-27-2008, 12:56 AM It will most likely be faster than a 135i...
myevox_mr 11-27-2008, 05:50 PM Nissan,
1. Why you still not have a Z with TTs?
2. Why you do not have a moon, sun, targa roof?
3. Why you stop using brembo brakes?
If you have does options on the Z one day, I might trade my EVO.
:(
on2it 11-27-2008, 09:26 PM ^ thats blasphemy. (If you have does options on the Z one day, I might trade my EVO.)
davidiii 11-27-2008, 11:30 PM i love the rev match feature thats pretty hot
is300 11-27-2008, 11:52 PM i like

:(
because the engines they use since the 350z dont respond well to boost on stock internals
because only the targa would look good, but its expensive and adds weight
because......they dont want red or gold calipers? idk bout that one.
and i still wouldnt trade my evo for one
shabarivas 11-29-2008, 05:45 PM lol.. the brembos on the VQ only stopped oh so slightly better than the stock 6pt / 4pt akebonos... Plus the brembos came with replacing rotors and pads every oh 20K miles...
Some people like having the option of keeping their cars NA... i know i know...
a moon... sun... or targa roof... would mean your Z would be a lot heavier than one without... why weigh it down? its not a luxury car... next people will complain about the Z not having massage seats...

actually im complaining of having no back seat....
actually im complaining of having no back seat....
then dont buy one. with the design of the car you couldnt fit even the bastard of a backseat that was in the eclipse.
RGory477 11-29-2008, 08:27 PM i love the rev match feature thats pretty hot
:+1: thats really sick
Not bad not bad.
Call me when they come out with a turbo version.
its turbo version is GTR
ddawg1130 11-29-2008, 11:48 PM damn the rev match is cool.
Papi4baby 11-30-2008, 01:56 AM its turbo version is GTR
Thank you, someone has a brain here.
And about it being a two seater, not everyone needs four seat and four doors. If i was single i be all over this car.
And yes if you want a turbo version, go get a GTR.
Aar0nsite 12-09-2008, 01:27 AM its faster than the GSR x.... failure!
myevox_mr 12-09-2008, 04:17 AM its faster than the GSR x.... failure!
I tough that the GSR was like 4.9.

What!!! remember that the 300ZX was twin turbo...
jacknjilloff 12-09-2008, 04:23 AM 3359 lbs isn't bad
shabarivas 12-09-2008, 05:48 AM that car is downright SICK... sick in person... and will be sick to drive... definitely debating trading the G in for 1... However... the minute you bring minor / semi serious mods into place the Evo will just walk over the Z... 370 or not... When you get into spending endless cash on your car... I am sure they will be close in performance... but stock for stock will definitely be very close. And if you are talking about stock quarter mile.... forget it cus the Z will definitely have the numbers there
I tough that the GSR was like 4.9.
correct
Wicked White 12-09-2008, 06:46 AM 4.9........ 5.1.. hmm.. good job nissan. you came close ;) yet still ugly. but those are pretty good numbers ill have to say
RGory477 12-09-2008, 03:52 PM that car is downright SICK... sick in person... and will be sick to drive... definitely debating trading the G in for 1... Ya unfortunately, Z's are not easy to mod from what I've read and it costs a lot more. I've actually herd of power LOSSES from people that modded there Z before. You have to be really careful and know exactly what your doing to get good gains...although I would hope they made it a little easier this time around. Only time will tell.
Papi4baby 12-09-2008, 05:40 PM What!!! remember that the 300ZX was twin turbo...
I know, but this is not 1995, and there was no GTR in America in 1995.
Nissan will not do that, if they do. Well they are stupid, cause that will kill the GTR market. I would love a 370 twin turbo, im sure the price would go up 15k easily.

That is exactly what im saying... if you keep it stock... the Z or EVO will be a wash... if you mod it (unless you spend 20K on each)... the EVO would destroy the Z... but once you get into spending that kinda coin on your car... the bottleneck does not remain at the platform but how much $$ you throw at it
Carlitosevx 11-02-2009, 06:37 PM X 4eva...
legendary_wraps 11-02-2009, 07:11 PM I just threw up in my mouth...
......
:(
unethikl 11-02-2009, 09:55 PM i like it too
Samurai 11-02-2009, 10:33 PM I don't like how they designed the arch going back to the rear bumper. I know that they wanted to go back to the 240 look, but it just makes it look ugly. IMO
shabarivas 11-02-2009, 10:42 PM Its a different beast in person... have had mine and owned it for about 1/2 a year now ... seriously puts smiles in my face not unlike the feeling I had when crusing around in my Evo... although I must say... the added work needed to make sure the RWD does not punish you around a corner is challenging at first but once you get it... you get rewarded big time :)
ripnbst 11-03-2009, 01:53 AM i like the car alot.
kidneythief13 11-03-2009, 02:44 PM Its a different beast in person...
Agreed. I've seen about 3 driving past me & I always pause to look for a second. I can't see myself owning one, but do think they are nice looking cars.
