Big Three post gains, Toyota slips in October sales

Nov 02, 2007 04:30 AM

"Auto sales in Canada were up 2.1 per cent in October as market leader General Motors reported a 13.2 per cent increase over year-ago levels, while the two biggest Japanese players suffered declines."

http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/272883

"Among the other Japanese makers, Mazda was up 1 per cent to 6,040 and Nissan rose 2.4 per cent to 5,851 while its upscale Infiniti line lost 11.9 per cent to 480. Mitsubishi accelerated 61.5 per cent to 1,381, passing Suzuki and nearing Subaru among the smaller players from Japan."

I'm surprised sales are up, especially with people dealing with the dollar rise and so many people importing cars from the states. I suppose this article is only about new car sales, and most private imports from the US are used cars. Mitsu is gaining on Subaru and I expect the first introduction of the Lancer Evolution will continue to help their business here, they just need to price it sensibly.

thats weird that mitsu is up there. their only real car that competes with anything is the evo/lancer. everything else is weird

Agreed. I would suspect that the Outlander caused a nice boost in sales too. I do see a number of them running around locally...which I realize says nothing for our neighbors up North.

Not every single car buyer out there is after what a Lancer Evolution enthusiast is after.

For example:

The Galant is a great value-packed mid-sized car that is good on gas, has great mileage, a comfortable car, incredibly safe and has one of the lowest costs of repair in the industry. The lease programs on the Galant are the best leases that Mitsubishi has. The Galant also has a very broad range from the entry level DE model to the top of the line Ralliart. The Mitsubishi warranty is also a very big motivator.

One of my salespeople at my dealership said it best:

I once asked him why he only dates fat girls.

His reply:

"Boss, while you're in bed with your skinny chick turning up the heat to keep warm, I just have to find a fold."

We think she looks weird.

Moral of the story: There's something for everyone out there, but just because someone doesn't like it, it doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't hit it.
