I still don’t think your quite understanding. It’s not necessary to always press the clutch to the floor. It’s not an argument of correct or incorrect. It’s called different driving preferences. Soon as the flywheel is disengaged you no longer need to continue pressing the pedal, so I don’t. Occasionally when I’m casually driving and shifting slowly, will tend to press the clutch “all the way down.” But if I’m at the track and I’m shifting faster, I will not press it “all the way down.” That just causes longer shifts, and who wants that?

Since we're on this i had another question pop up in my noggin.

Clutch for neutral? Or is it ok to just pop the shifter into neutral without clutching first? Sometimes it has some resistance to it and it feels as though you need to give it some force to get it to pop into neutral which is when i clutch. I find myself on and off with this. Sometimes i'll always clutch to shift into neutral and sometimes i wont do it at all, ill even force it (lazy moments).

Thoughts?

no. not ok to just rip it into neutral. idk where u guys think of/learn these things. ripping it into neutral (although it seems like it can seemlessly be done), creates minor physical wear on the transmission components. dont do it.

like i said. it may seem that these "techniques" (not really techniques at all though) can be done to save a fraction of a second, or might be convenient because youre lazy, but they are just extremely poor driving habits and should be avoided.

Ok, thank you. I heard from someone that holding down the clutch or clutching too often is bad for the clutch because of the ball bearings or something? Any idea about that?

Constructive criticism...not so much.

Clutch ALWAYS for neutral.

I completely disagree. But it’s ok.

my rule when teaching someone to drive a stick is ALWAYS clutch to the floor. This is just to prevent any grinding. If you are used to your car enough and know exactly how far to push it down without any grinding then I'm sure you will be fine.

I always clutch to the floor just to be on the safe side and can't stand the possibility of grinding synchros or slipping clutch.

As for launching, it will take some time.... and some clutch. I've practiced launching (I never had an awd car before the evo) and have successfully launched it maybe 5-10 times. I've also burnt the shit out of it a couple of time. I have over 35,000 miles and my clutch is still good
