Yeah, but there are three big reasons that smarty cam isn't popular
1). $1000
2). It's $1000 and the camera is not even high def and no wide angle lens. I hate to say it, but gopro video quality counts for a lot and has no equal. Yet.
3). It's redundant. You are paying for two seperate loggers (smartycam and solo) to do the same thing.

Traqmate has a lot of loyal followers who love the gopro integration. Yes, you can still post process like I do, but it takes time to use the software and properly sync.

Orthojoe, I am looking at getting the basic AIM Solo. Am I going to regret getting the "DL", which is alot of $$$ more? Also, do you use the magnets or the inserts (as described in the manual)?

If you are looking purely for a lap timer, and learning how to go faster, I think the plain SOLO is enough. GPS speed and accelerometer is all you really need (and all SOLO will give you), and the rest can be calculated using math channels:
http://lapfaster.com/Portals/0/ebook...free_ebook.pdf

However, if you want to keep an eye on certain channels like ECT, SOLO DL is needed. RPM, throttle position, brake switch, steering angle are nice but not necessary. If you want to make trackvision videos like I do, and learn when you are on the throttle, hitting the brakes, turning in, then the DL is needed as well. The lapfaster e-book can tell you how to make math channels that will get you similar info, but if want a visual aid like a data overlay video, the DL is worth the extra money.

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to re: magnets vs. inserts. My Solo is magnetically attached to the suction cup mount I purchased....?

Thanks for the insigt. The thing about magnets vs. inerts is from the manual, but what I realy wanted to know was if the magnets are sufficient, and it seems they are

Thanks a lot for the information. Thought the solo was all I needed but that video insert is a definite plus with my gopro. I know what my christmas gift is gonna be.

You can still do video overlay with the plain SOLO, but the only data you will get is speed, track position, and G's (that is enough for some people). If you want rpm, TPS, brake, temps, steering wheel position, etc, then you need SOLO DL.

Good to know. I'll have to consider it. What I'm really looking for is knowing what part of the track I'm losing time. But rpm measure and brake is a real nice feature.

I'll probably go with the DL because I'm very interested in the gear that the SST is in, with speed and RPM I should be able to figure that out. Probably won't get one 'till next year because I'm spending way too much this year on the beast already (wheels, tires, SSP cooler etc.)

Yes, DL can calculate gear position for you based on speed and rpm.
