That sounds very likely, because I was checking and recheking the bpv, hoping that something is incorrectly assebled. May be stock bov is not designed to work with this turbo? When you say 'vertually', do you mean you still get some?
Log airflow to find out if you have surge ..
log mivec to find out where the actual mivec is when you have that issue.
Log AFR to see if you're going too lean

surge can also be reduced by changing BOV / BPV ..

At that boost level .. it is NOT possible to be sparkplugs ..

In a scale 1-100%, its 95% resolved. There is slight stutter right under 3000rpm and 4000rpm depending depending on how I gas the car but its hardly noticeble even when it does come on now. I can drive the car now for hours local/freeway with 0 hestitation, car is running great with Garrett turbo. Hope that helps.

It looks like I need to get the right bov for this turbo. Can you guys recommend one or is it a trial and error process?
What about Synapse?

I just upgraded my friend's MR with my old GT30 turbo and it seems that the stock BOV that I crushed to hold 5 psi more now flutters between shifts quite a bit at part throttle. I'm prety sure it's still safe and it drives fine but at the same time it looks like I also need to change BOV's to something more part throttle friendly. It sounds like one of those old school Supras now ... Choo choo choo... and it was fine with the stock turbo.

I changed my BOV to Synapse. It became much better. The problem is still there, but it only appears in 5th gear and much less often.
I'm now having a boost control issue. Thinking of creating another theread...

Just thought I would chime in that I am running the same turbo with the exact same issue. My car surges like a mofo between 70-90 load on the freeway going 75mph in 5th at very low TPS. Running stock bov switching to Synapse DV this week. OP did you ever get the 3071r running well/making power?
