My guess is material flaws/internal stress with the addition of stress/weakening from high heat and cycling.

Your right it's not a big stress area, but in UK some Evo owners like to have negative ignition timing placed into their map/tune to make the car sound a bit more WRC like, it's very common, but that must put more stress on places like the turbo elbow where the "pop n bang" explosion happens, or not?

No, it's just the angle/perspective!
True 3" all the way!

Yeh, Ultimate Racing Spike, good elbow, I think you may be right about the pops and bangs mapping though, it can create extra heat back there which is why I'm getting it removed when I get the car remapped when its finished.....
I'm sure yours will be fine, I spoke with Nigel @ C-Tec and he says he's never seen a UR elbow do that, I'm waiting on them (UR) to reply re warranty, if they won't cover it, I'll just weld it and sell it on cheap, it's not a critical area.......

Cheers Ken

There never seems to be any warranty on the products we buy I got rodded off by Japspeed for re-welding that MF that failed. What elbo are you gonna go for next? it seems maybe a wide mouth turbo elbow might be the best option for a map that has pops n bangs.

Ant put some pops n bangs on my map at the high end rev range, so when I change gear after booting it, it gives a nice pop n bang! but....I question... what's happening if I'm on the autobahn driving near max speed?? I bet that's why my turbo was blue... lol next time I'm opting out.

C-Tec Spike, not convinced pops and bangs is "good" for the car!

OK, so I'm thinking about making/getting a gasket made that has the divider between the 2 turbo outlets to help with this problem.
Would I be OK with a 2mm sheet of copper fabricated accordingly?
Or do we 100% need the crush type of gasket?

Will copper withstand the heat in that area?

Gasket for turbo elbow?

Doubtful. It will expand too much, probably work itself loose easily.
