On anything but an Evo (mostly supercharged v8s down here) nitrous is one of the safer mods when done correctly. When its used with its own injectors and goes in with fuel dictated by throttle position, no push button crap.

Disclaimer: this is not me telling you it's ok to install a nitrous system on your x.

In discussion with a reputable local tuner about getting X horsepower to the ground, the recipe for getting 400whp properly involved a new turbo.

On a GSR one could reliably get 300-330 whp with intake, exhaust, 3 port solenoid, and a tune. Going towards 360+ whp called for adding a new intercooler, IC piping, and cams (and tune of course).

Breaking into the 400 threshold started getting pricey with new turbo, downpipe, fuel pump, and injectors in addition to the above.

Without the new turbo itself you might see up to 380 or so whp, with various "weak spots" needing addressing as you start reaching those higher numbers.

You could probably break into 400 with just most of the mods and e85 but not the bigger turbo.

Actual wheel horsepower values vary of course depending on the dyno used.

I am at 350/350 with cams and bolt ons with 91 oct. I think with E-85 and my stuff you can get 380, 390 whp and from what I hear on a stock turbo it should be a lot of fun with stock turbo lag.

Im no expert on pushing the limits of this engine or turbo, but are we talking about being so far up there that meth injection wouldnt put this in the 400's? im talking using it to push limits, not some gain along with the safety factor that can be gained from it.

I'm at 387 with just bolt ons. 93 and tuned by Chet Rickerman. E85 and I would be at 400.

they are all street pulls with VD...dyno is over 4 hrs away...so numbers are prob a little off but still think if I ran e85 I would be right there at 400. Feels amazing for me though!

Later this year I'm planing to install the following:

- full turbo back (catless, no mufflers)
- AMS FMIC, UICP & LICP
- AMS intake
- 3port
- Tial BOV
- Pro tune

I'm also thinking of upgrading the fuel pump and injectors along with the other mods, but I'm not sure if there's any need on a stock turbo. Will I see gains from an upgraded fuel system on the OEM turbo?

My goal is to get 340-360 HP/TQ but has to be DD reliable..
