:UPDATE:
8th JAN 2013 Okay, so stage 2 of the diet is now well into full swing. The addition of all four Carbon doors is a decent weight saving. The fitment of the doors is good, although the thickness of the Carbon doors themselves over the thin metal skin of the standard doors is making progress a little slow as the plastic clips around the door handle internal assembly won't work with the thicker CF material. Some dremel work to thin out some areas was required by the finish external is about as good as carbon gets for panels. ![]() ![]() So door is now on, three more to go then it's back on with the Vinyl wrap. The black parts of the wrap wont be vinyl this time, it'll just be CF so you can see the dark weave but the rear doors will have the RTR swoop of Black, Silver and Green as usual that will blend into the rear quater which is in white vinyl. Should look the business when finished. As for a weight reduction, the CF doors and the lexan windows make for a HUGE weight reduction!

Love the updates and the story of the car from beginning to end. Wish I would have saved it for slacking off at work but it was such a good read I couldn't stop. I count my short time visiting Perth/Fremantle and Hobart in Tassie as some of the best days of my life.
Cheers! |

Any idea of the weight savings amount from the doors and windows? A couple hundred pounds I assume, if not more?

Quick thought, grab a Ralliart rear diff from a wrecker. Mechanical not electronic

I hear you, but it's not that simple, plus if it were I'd already have the RS Evo X rear diff in the car, plus the RA's puny little diff isn't as strong as the stock Evo X's torque transfer AYC diff. So' it'll be a cusco 1.5 way.
It's also a proven thing a few big power Time Attack X's kicking around and I'd rather not be the guinea pig trying to work out what works when someone has already done the hard yakka. That said, I'd like to see how far we can go with a few changes to the rear AYC rear diff. Essentially, with the right programming, high pressure from the pump etc it should be a good thing in theory, better than a mechanical in many ways. The problem is the complexity. A cusco is the path of least resistance as it stands right now.

Since you heathens havent adopted the metric system (and you drive on the wrong side of the road
) I'll talk lb instead of kg.The standard front passenger door weighed in on the scales at 54lbs (24.5kg) where as the new door weighs in at 16.5lbs (7.5kg) so it's a big weight saving indeed. ![]()

The front door at 24.5kg was weighed just as it was when it came off the car. So yes, with all glass and inside trim intact. It's a full door like it would be on any road car from factory.
