Woah, this is EXTREMELY interesting. How many 2010's + have thrown rods? Time to go find that blown motor thread...

Edit: Looks like a few 2010's have thrown rods too due to overboost condition or too much TQ, so if they are stronger, obviously still weak enough to get thrown through blocks from bolt ons and overboost condition or turbo upgrade.

For clarification anything that runs in Group N is required to be Homologated and as such it has Homologationg tax attached. The part number for the rods that ARE Homologated is MN580072 or using the older superseeded Ralliart Part number is RA111304S1. The part is the same, it's just that the RA part numbers are now superseeded.

The reason these were designed was because Group N Gravel Rally cars runs very high boost 32-33psi, added to that they also run either a 32 or 33mm restrictor (the rules changes in 08 then again in 09' on restrictor size) so when running 30 plus psi of boost with a restrictor on the Turbo, at low RPM the OEM rods were bending. A'la High Tension Steel rods were required. Stating the obvious here, running 30psi+ of boost at 2,400 rpm isn't friendly on rods, bearings and crank.

Spec and instructions on these I-Beam High Tensile Steel rods are found here: http://www.ralliart.com/content/dam/...RA111304S1.pdf

Unless you are building a car specifically for Group N rally you wouldnt use these rods as the price is just stupidly expensive by comparison of anything else on the market of equivilent strength that isnt a Homolgated part.

To give you an idea of how expensive Group N parts are. A typical front and rear Group N brake package developed by Brembo for Gravel Rally to suit a 15" wheel is about $28,000 AUD whereas a good brake upgrade from someone like AP front and rear is about a third of the cost. Again, the Brembo package is Homolgated whereas the AP package isnt.

The cost of a Group N Rally car build is about $250,000 for a conservative build plus the price of the new Evo X RS on top of that. Double that if you want a car that is capable of getting onto the podium.

Now that may seem expensive (and it is) but the additional cost of running a car in Gravel Rally in a National or International Group N series is huge. You'd expect to factor in replacement drive shafts EVERY event. Clutch rebuild every event and a dogbox rebuild every second event. Also, factor in damage from leaving the road (and every driver will do that too you at least once during an event over three days of competition.

Suspension damage is another area where you'd expect to spend big dollars, so the one off spend of 15K for suspension might seem big, imagine replacing at least one new strut every race meet. The FIA approved homolgated fuel cell, that's another 5 digit cost.

The cost of building a Time Attack car and running it all year is a fraction on what you'd spend in a full year of Competition running in Group N Gravel Rallies.

stock rods - it's the body that bends and then fails as described above, from what i have seen.

What is the gear they have done tests?
You have access to that file or you can also ask one of the tuner? We'd be curious to display it, together with the scale curve "PARA POWER".
