Trouble with Braking Hard

i changed my 08 EVO X MR oem pads for hawks street pads when i reached 55,000km a few months ago. since then, the bite is really soft. actually the bite was soft for a few months before that as the oem pads were wearing. so my braking has been soft for 7-8 months and i can't even remember how strong it was when i first bought the car new.

the amount of effort i have to put into breaking hard is disheartening. the same amount of force applied to my 328xi would make it stop dead in its tracks, while the evo just coasts to a stop. i have to actually apply a fair amount of pressure with my leg to feel the brakes dig in, and i'm 215lbs. i'm not sure if this is the result of crappy hawks, which got great reviews, or just evo braking system in general. i'm not expecting really touchy braking, but i feel like the amount of force required to brake hard can lead to accidents if i'm not careful.

any opinions? i service the car at the dealer according to the manual, almost to the day. i've had the big service at 48,000km (30K miles) and i think it included a brake flush.

do better research before buying pads. Hawk HPS pads suck for the Evo X

countless threads and posts (and even a full build thread of them) of Stoptech Street Performance Pads being the better choice

+1 any amount of research would have shown that HAWK HPS SUCK.

Did you bed them in properly? Bite will be very limited when not bed in properly.

My brakes are awesome with the Stop Tech pads. They are on par with the stock but 50% less dust.

Did you get a fresh surface cut on the rotors? Then bed the pads into the rotor surfaces?

I asked the OP the same thing, I'm guessing by lack of answer they were not.

which could explain some of the issue.

ok well there is your problem. Glad it was solved.

1. Pads were not bed-in properly
2. Rotors were not cut or replaced
3. Pads are not confidence inspiring.
