Have you seen the people that get set free with major mental illnesses and end up hurting people. IMO the government isn't qualified to do "mental health checks".

With today's budgets and high health care costs, this will only get MUCH worse.

Iirc >20,000 mental patients were released in the wild last year alone just due to budget cuts.

BTW: Government didn't do any "mental health checks". That is all done by qualified, licensed doctors. Gov just cut funding - mostly at the state level.

Most mental patients get attacked and abused more than the average genpop. Why shouldn't they also carry to protect themselves?

For those asking what I would reccomend instead of complaining about the offered solutions your most likely not going to like my answer...There are no real laws or measures that can be taken in order to end gun violence or prevent mass shootings. Guns will always be available in some form or another (even if outlawed) and there will always be sick individuals who slip through the cracks in the mental health system. Asking me to give up my rights in the hollow hopes that it can prevent these problems is what I have an issue with. One of the things I'd like to propose is to prevent the media from making these shootings out to be the biggest story for the past month. It causes unnecessary hysteria and gets the whole nation looking for something to pin the blame on. I've seen plan crashes with 100+ fatalities get less airtime and publicity. Not to mention the 500 murders in Chicago this past year total more deaths than all mass shootings in US history (in a city with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation). Think about it, if I'm a deranged person wishing to go out with a bang what better than to kill several people then myself and get immortalized by the media as a monster. People are more likely to remember the attacker than the victims. The real kicker is we have tried the same legislation before yet people seem to forget that it didn't work the first time. Why is it going to be any different this go-around. Common sense is a rare commodity these days and it kills me on the inside to know that things

and the safe is how you keep your guns safe. Want to keep firearms away from crazies secure them. I'm for a better method of background checks but not for banning shit.
