So much for reinsurance...but I guess I see your point of views. I'm still going to test drive the car and letting the sales guy know what he's in for! that is, IF he lets me.

MR is not an option for me. I have driven automatics all my life and NEED something different.

So the GSR transmission isn't strong enough for a beginner right?

I'd be surprised they would even let you drive it not knowing how. I don't recommend
learning on an Evo. Main reason is it might cost you a lot of money. Or maybe
it will come easy to you. I'd buy a beater Honda of some sort and learn on it.
It won't take too long and it will be cheaper to fix.

I feel a bit more confidence, thanks!

1. You don't understand the type of transmission the MR has DCT/SST. It's anything but the autos you've driven before.
2. You would kill even a Shep built trans if you don't do it right. It's not the equipment it's the driver in that department.

It might be if you treat it right. Dont try burnouts and shit like that and you should be ok. Do what YOU want. People on this forum hate threads like this. Dont ask for opinions, only ask for facts.
These cars are meant for abuse. Im sure it should be able to handle a beginner driver.

I learned how to drive stick in my GSR in DC traffic in winter. I've never driven a manual car prior. 41k miles now and no clutch issues.

^ and some "proficient" drivers on here burn through one in 20k. See it's all in the driver.

the tranmission is plenty strong. But this car isn't a civic with 115 horsepower and FWD. You throwing caution to the wind, especially considering your seemingly cost conscience, is a potential recipe for disaster. Good luck

It's not about the transmission, It's about the clutch. In front or rear wheel drive cars usually the tires will spin before the clutch burns. In an AWD car you have twice as much grip from the tires (as all 4 are hooked up) and generally the clutch will suffer for it. Tires are expensive. Clutches, and the labor in replacing them, are much more expensive.

Delay the purchase and learn to drive a manual first.
