I wouldn't think you HAVE to remove the stock NAVI, but you wouldn't be able to tap into it. You can always get a mount and place a screen on the top of your dash on the left side, like where you would mount a stand alone GPS or something. Wouldn't look to bad I dont think.

Probably what I might end up doing. Still debating a bunch of things.

Whats the catch? There has to be a downside to why people spend over $1000 on Defi gauges instead of going with this.
How do I wire to see boost, air/fuel, oil pressure, water/oil temps...? Those sensors have to add to the cost also right?
Ok, I'll do a more detailed breakdown for you

The essentials (must have for every system):
1) Touchscreen - ~$200
2) SOME KIND OF COMPUTER (could be a Mac Mini, could be custom built, could be a stripped down netbook or laptop) - $300-600.

Those two items will get you a barebones computer to use in your car. If you have a Rockford Fosgate system (and don't want to replace your amp), you will need a MITO-02 adapter to turn on the amp. This will also act as your audio interface between the computer and sound system (it has 4 RCA audio inputs: Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right).

You will then need a Tactrix cable if you don't have one already (~$100-150) and a copy of Evoscan ($25).

Evoscan will be able to monitor everything accessible to the stock ECU such as Boost, Coolant Temp, RPM, Fuel Trims, TPS, IAT, etc.

If you're looking to do oil pressure, wideband, EGT, etc, I'd highly recommend investing in a Zeitronix ZT-2 system. This is a standalone data collection wideband unit. It comes with a wideband sensor - other sensors such as EGT, Oil Pressure Sensor, Fuel Pressure are available separately and plug right into the ZT-2 unit (it has 2 user inputs that can be used for any combination of pressure and temperature sensors) in addition to a EGT probe input.

The ZT-2 unit is connected to your computer via a RS-232 serial cable (you will need a USB to RS-232 cable - ~$10).

If you already have a wideband, check to see if it has a serial output. If it does, it can be used with Evoscan with little to no modding.

Other options such as GPS ($30-70), Webcams ($10-80), DVD drives ($15-30), mediacard reader ($5-30), are up to you. If you want radio, look into a Visteon HD Radio receiver ($50-70) and a MJS HD Radio USB cable ($40).

Adding all the bells and whistles will not be cheap, but it won't ever cost more than a top end navigation headunit But what headunit can run Evoscan?

You could tap into the factory nav as a display using the backup camera input, but won't be able to use the touchscreen. Add a switch to trick the backup camera input into engaging and hook up that input to your computer As far as input goes, just use a wireless keyboard/mouse combo unit

You could also wire your wideband to your rear o2 sensor and just log from the ecu. No need for any serial cables.

Hrm. Would really be interested in seeing how to setup the stock NAVI to use as display. The more stock looking I can keep the car (Besides the few slight visual accents already done) the better.

Oh you can just replace the narrowband with a wideband?

From my understanding you remove the rear o2 completely. Then you tap into the yellow wire that runs to ecu with your wideband wiring. Then you can just log af from the ecu. There is a write up on the forum about it. My guess is you would just plug the rear o2 bung since you'd probably want to use something closer to the DP.
