Porter Cable 7424 XP worth it?

I am looking into buying a Porter Cable 7424 XP polisher. I want remove the swirl marks on my 3 month old evo. The car came with swirls from the dealer, from them washing it while on the lot from time to time. Not to mention im sure ive added quite a few by washing it myself once a week. My question is, is it worth spending ~$300 on one of the kits even though the swirls will eventually return? I plan on using it for the swirls as well as the occasional wax and polish. Or should I just live with the swirls and that they will pretty always exist?

I love the heck out of my porter cable. Its great for getting rid of swirls as you stated but it also makes waxing a much more pleasant job. It applys it faster and does a better job of covering the car than applying it by hand. As a time saver alone it should repay itself within a year.

Yeah that's true. How often do you use a swirl remover? How many times could you before it would become an issue?

I only polish the car once a year with a mild polish. This way it minimizes the long term abrasion of the clear coat. Only issue is if you have deep swirls then you will need to use a more aggressive polish. That being said, in theory it should take a long long time to wear through the clear coat with a mild swirl correction per year. The best way to avoid swirls and scratches is to improve your washing method to minimize risk (i.e. two bucket system, microfiber towels to dry, etc....)

thanks your help. I do use two buckets. I also started out with a microfiber towel to dry but it sucked so i switched to a chamois I prob have a cheap microfiber thats why it doesnt dry well, idk. I will probably invest in the polisher and then do my best to keep her scratch free.

check out detailersdomain.com for supplies. They are vendors on this forum and have been helpful to me in the past. They carry everything you need to keep your car looking great.

I have the same porter cable and I would buy it again or any of the flex products

As far as swirls coming back look into the 2 bucket method.

I spent about 15 hours correcting my paint from scratches and swirls and that was 2 years ago. I then applied opti coat 2.0 to give some extra permanent protection.

Till this day my car still looks like it's brand new. And people freak out when I tell them it's a 2008

Look at the griots garage polisher. They normally can be found for cheaper and seem to be better. I have last version of their buffer and love it. I use it to do everything from sealing my car to just waxing. Check the detailing sites as well for deals. Some times on here I think it detailersdomain runs specials.

Before I bought mine I researched forever till I made the choice. You'll find mostly positive reviews about both. But price is what made me decide. Just do your research and make an informed decision for you. In the long run you'll be happier. Both are good. I think meguirs has one also but not nearly as good of info and reviews available and it in same price range.

One you decide on buffer then you research on products to use. Then what pads to use. Like I said research and you'll be good.

Were you able to keep it relatively swirl free since then?
