Otherwise most of us would say get something like a Conti DWS or DW. I would run a PSS or similar tire personally with a dedicated set.

You dont put anything but less than the best on an evo, when it comes to tires....Its just a waste of the entire car otherwise.
Exactly, it's a damn Evo, with shit tires you literally have a base lancer with a fancy noise maker strapped to the engine. Just makes me sad to see a nice car with tires like this, especially when he has brand new OEM tires (which are fucking great for the 50km's they last) he wants to get rid of.

None of those handle rain well. If I was going for a competative autocross tire it would be the the A6. But since he wanted a summer tire that can handle rain, I suggested the pss. It has great tread life, they are quite compiared to others in its class.

I don't disagree with this. Tires are top 3 as far as importance on a car. My other car ran Falken RT-615s for a while and god forbid you get caught in the snow in those. I'm not opposed to running a summer tire I just don't want something that

A: If I get caught in a freak snow situation where I have to drive through an inch of snow to get home I'm going to be putting a 40k car at an unreasonable risk.

B: Is so geared towards winter weather that I lose all summer performance. (I don't want super soft sidewalls)

I'm looking for something I guess that isn't classified as an "all season" but is also not in the category of NT05s. Is there a summer performance tire that isn't so high up the scale that it's with R compounds but also isn't so low on the scale that it may as well be an all season? Something that has great dry performance, decent rain performance, and if I get caught in an inch of snow I won't die lol.

Like I said 99/100 times the car will be driven in nice weather. I just don't want to be completely hopeless if I get caught an an inch of snow the 1 other time.

Happy heard the following abou it " I also heard last night something concerning about the PSS, that the 'dual compound' tread is sticker on the surface but is harder underneath and the initial grip is great but falls of very quickly once it wears which is why they can offer a 30k mile warranty on the tires."

You guys do realize car and driver rated it the highest autox tire based on their testing ...right?

WOOT-Check out the Continental DW or DWS. I think thats the best you can get for a compromise. the PSS is by no means close to a AS tire.

Car and driver rates on more than just lap times, which quite frankly, is about all I care about (obviously OP cares about more than just lap times). I mean hell, V12 Evos are an absolutely shit tire, but Car and Drive for god knows why liked them.

Ever since that review I take C&D with a grain of salt.

I only brought up Extreme performance summer tires b/c Mike said the PSS were fastest outside of R comp which something that not yet been proven and I highly, highly doubt.

In response to Mike, not every Auto X class runs R Comps either, there are numerous very competitive street tire classes only. As a result, not only can not everyone just afford to drop 1600.00 a set on A6's to get 60 runs out of them, nor is it even legal in many classes.

I would personally never recommend Conti DW tires, their side wall is extremely soft. They are comprable to the V12 Evo, but a little better IMO.
