Roninz 2008 PB gsr engine rebuild

Hey Everyone, This thread is about the story of my engine build. Long story short, i was driving on the highway doing a pull from second gear to third than i heard a big boom.... Scared the shit outta me, drove out the highway and pull over in the garage and then started looking for oil or debris in the engine bay. So far good news no mess but car is running like a boxer engine, i figured spark plug. So i started pulling them one by one until i felt upon this

Then i figured trouble... installed a fresh spark plug and drove like a grandma to my local shop and we did a leak down test on cylinder 4.... 86% leak! So then we started shopping for new parts.

Today, i decided to head to the shop and clean up a bit of my parts. Pulled out intercooler and put it in hot tank to clean up all the salt residue and cleaned up my uicp.

New injectors

New Manley Valve springs and titanium retainers

received my tomei cams and new oem valve seals as well but forgot to take pics.

Still waiting on the block being sleeve, and valve spring retainers... hopefully soon ! miss my car ...

The exact same thing happened to me. #4 spark plug went on the exact same cylinder and I lost compression. I think Mitsubishi must have a defect with their stock spark plugs.

Sorry to hear man. The good news is you will have a brand new beast going forward

Sub'd

Mine died last week (timing chain tensioner failed) so I'll be doing the exact same thing for the next few weeks.

Good luck with the build!

EDIT: are you planning on getting the diff pins replaced with the tranny out? Mine has 33k on the clock and god knows what the previous owner did to the car.
