Cars in the shop... AGAIN

So I've owned my 2010 MR since mid-september of last year. The 2nd day I owned it, it broke down due to a bad alternator/panasonic battery.

The past few cold starts have been extremely sluggish - and even require me to try to crank the car 2-3 times. I took it up to Mitsubishi and after getting the standard "we can't replicate the issue" claim, I had them keep it overnight and test the battery this morning (35-40 degrees out). They call me stating that another alternator has potentially popped.

Does anyone have any insight into why two alternators could have popped in under 6k miles?

Did they put in a new or remanufactured unit last time? Sometimes reman's aren't done right and die early.

I'm still on the original alternator after almost five years.

Are you still under warranty for those parts?

I too have replaced parts on my '08 that shouldn't be replaced at 26k miles. Clutch master cylinder, ECU, clutch.

Except for the ECU, I have installed upgraded aftermarket parts. If they have already failed, why replace with a factory part?

But electrical system has been the one area I haven't had problems.

Yeah everything is still under the bumper to bumper warranty for another year or 15k miles. Only 21k on the car currently and it is fully stock except a cat back exhaust.

Then you are right to get factory parts. I also replaced front O2 sensor with OE.

you may have a grounding issue or some electric surge somewhere....dealer should be able to test the electric system using mut3..

Hey, if you find out what is exactly wrong let me know. I took my car to the dealership like 5 times last year and left it overnight twice for the same exact issue. They never replaced anything because they couldn't reproduce it. It didn't do it all summer and so far it's only done it once in the past 2 months.

Hmmm Mitsubishi in Victoria, canada was replacing the panisonic with the optima red top... They said it was a recall and that the batteries were being replaced with red tops.. Unfortunately I had bought a yellow top a couple weeks before.. Tell them that other Mitsubishi were replacing the panisonic ones with the reds and see if there not telling you something your initialed to.
