Certainly not a drag car. Basically just a status symbol at this point, because for the money( the SS costs what, $2M?) you can build 5 1000whp+ exotics, and then some.

I don't think that is the reason for the weight. I mean the car has 4 turbo's, essentially two engines, (W16), a 7 speed gearbox, huge wheels and tires, etc. It is meant to be a grand touring car with insane acceleration/top speed.
The SCC Ultimate Aero is supposed to go even faster( not sure if confirmed), and that only weighs 2xxx lbs, same with Konigsegg's they go 24x+ mph and are very light.
