Service System light, wont talk to ABS

Ok, I bought the cheapest evo x ever, with the knowledge that the pump may be toast. The service drivetrain light is on and it wont let me select which mode to drive in. I plugged it in to a scanner to confirm it is the pump, but the scanner wont talk to the ABS module. It's a good Mac scanner that's not the issue. Is the module in control of the awd system? Could that be my problem instead of the pump? Anyone have a way to tell?
