Over the last week, the talk of the boxing world has been the announcement that Floyd Mayweather Jr is taking 1-2 years off following his victory over Shane Mosley. Now, this wasn't some rumor or speculation by boxing fans and critics.

This announcement was a video admission by Floyd Jr during his appearance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. However, Floyd's Uncle Roger adamantly says that Floyd Jr won't retire. In fact, Uncle Jeff and some of Floyd's contemporaries say Floyd won't be taking time off. So who are we supposed to believe?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did Floyd Jr use a kid with cancer to further his agenda?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Floyd Mayweather Jr
During an appearance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Floyd Mayweather Jr announced on video that he was going to take 1-2 years off. Now, Floyd Jr was sitting right next to a 17 year old kid suffering from Hodgkin's disease, which is a type of cancer. The kid said that Floyd Jr was his favorite athlete and hero. He also said that he wanted to see Floyd Jr fight Manny Pacquiao.
When the interviewer asked Floyd Jr about a fight with Manny, Floyd Jr smiled and said that he was going to take some time off and possibly pursue other charity opportunities. This announcement spread faster than a 'wild fire' and soon the entire Boxing universe was talking about it.
Many people were questioning how Floyd Jr could say this after all the talk of him fighting Manny Pacquiao. Others, like myself, blasted Floyd Jr for using a kid with cancer to further his boxing agenda. Ultimately, many critics called Floyd Jr a 'coward'.
However, there were some Mayweather faithful who held out hope that Floyd Jr was just running off at the mouth and not serious. Well, Uncle Roger Mayweather fanned these flames of hope with his latest.

Uncle Roger did an interview with The Boxing Truth Radio and completely shot down any talks of Floyd Jr retiring.
"Floyd says a lot of things, he ain't retiring. Trust me. What makes logical sense to you take two years off or $100 million dollars. Two years off, makes you two years older, Floyd aint taking two years, he aint stupid."
Uncle Roger went on to assure us that he knows what's really going on and nobody else does:
"Don't worry about what you say, worry about what I say. I'm on the inside. All I do is keep it real"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is Floyd Jr a 'coward' for retiring?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeff Mayweather
In a recent interview with fellow Examiner Chris Robinson, Uncle Jeff Mayweather weighed in on Floyd's potential retirement:
"I donít think heís going to walk away. I think itís just talk but you never know. Iím not in his shoes at all and with a fight of this magnitude and just getting back from a big victory it may not be the smartest thing to do but Iím not in his shoes.Ē
Antonio Margarito
I was the first to break the news to Antonio Margarito that Floyd Mayweather Jr said he was going to take 1-2 years off from boxing. Here's what Antonio had to say:
This is the first that I hear of this. My wife and I just got back from a two week vacation, so I haven't been up to date with the boxing world. But, I believe this is part of Mayweather's negotiating tactic. I really believe he is aware that this is the right time to be a champion or top contender in the Welterweight and Super welterweight divisions. Who knows how strong and attractive these divisions will be in a year or two.
Conclusion
So it all comes down to who you find more credible. Unfortunately, most of the Mayweathers lack credibility. How are we supposed to believe Uncle Roger over Floyd Jr? Floyd said it with his own mouth on video. Since when does a video announcement become less credible than Roger Mayweather? My advice to any of you that are "struggling" over who to believe, don't believe either of them. Believe in the money. There's no way Floyd Jr can or will turn down $40-$100 million dollars.

Who do you believe: Uncle Roger, Floyd Jr, or the Money?

The Sports world is in a zombie like state as we all await the outcome of the negotiations between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. However, Floyd Jr isn't the only option for Manny's next fight.

In fact, Manny has at least 5 other opponents that could stand across the ring from him in November. It seems that in addition to Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao is the 'golden goose' for most challengers. Let's examine Manny's other options.

5) Paul Williams
Williams is calling out 'anyone who's anyone' in the welterweight division. Not only has Williams called out Floyd Jr, but he made sure that everyone knew he would love to fight Manny. Unfortunately, I don't see this fight happening. Paul has at least 7 to 8 inches on Manny and an incredible reach advantage.

4) Yuri Foreman
Bob Arum has said on multiple occasions that Manny is interested in a potential match-up with the winner of Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto. Now, most people are focusing on a rematch against Cotto. But, what if Yuri wins? Foreman would still be undefeated and also have the height advantage. It definitely would be an interesting clash between the two. At least we would have a professional and respectful hyping of the fight due to each man's faith in God and humbleness. Here's an example of Foreman's respect for Manny. Quote is from late February 2010:

ďAnd Pacquiao, listen, is such a great fighter in my eyes. Really, he's pretty much the pound-for-pound best. And that's a great compliment when it's coming from him that he's considering me as a fighter or an opponent. That's a great honorĒ Yuri Foreman, Fanhouse

3) Miguel Cotto
If Cotto upsets Foreman and takes the strap, I think a rematch against Manny would be a "lock". Cotto wants revenge for his loss to Manny last November. Manny completely dominated Miguel and by the end of the fight, Cotto's face was battered and bloody.

Many fans are disgruntled over this possible rematch because they would rather see a Floyd Jr fight or because they believe that Manny would beat Cotto again. But this rematch could provide Manny a chance at winning a world title in an 8th weight class. (Same for if Manny fought Yuri)

If Miguel Cotto defeats Yuri Foreman, he would be the first man to do so and the victory could provide a plausible excuse for Miguel's previous encounter with Pacquiao. Also, Manny Pacquiao would have to come up in weight which could be an advantage for Miguel (or Yuri).

2) Juan Manuel Marquez

Over the last week. Juan Manuel Marquez has publicly blasted Manny Pacquiao. Marquez has said that Manny is scared of him and that he has Manny's number. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer also echoed Juan's comments.

The 1st Fight
Pacquiao and Marquez first fought on May,8, 2004. They met at the 125 pound mark and fought for Marquez's WBA strap. Pacquiao put Juan on the canvas 3 times in the first round. To Marquez's credit, he was able to get back up and finish the fight. The fight ended in a draw as 1 judge had it 115-110 for Pacquiao, the 2nd judge had it 115-110 for Marquez and the 3rd judge had it 113-113. Marquez threw 547 punches to Pacquiao's 639 but landed 10 more punches than the Pacman with 158.

The 2nd Fight
Pacquiao and Marquez would meet again in March of 2008 at 130 pounds. The fight was for Marquez's WBC super featherweight strap. Pacquiao won by split decision (115-112, 112-115, 114-113). Most boxing critics supposedly felt Marquez won the fight as he dominated Pacquiao in the second round despite being knocked down in the third round. Marquez landed more punches (172 to 157) despite throwing over 100 less punches than Pacquiao (511-619).

The first 2 fights between Manny and Juan were definitely exciting and close. The closeness of these fights is why Juan thinks Manny Pacquiao is scared. In a recent interview with Boxing Fanhouse, JMM had the following to say about the PacMan:

"I badly want the fight with Pacquiao, but he doesn't want it. He doesn't want to fight with me again. That's because everybody watching the two fights with Manny knows that I won. The first fight, they called it a draw. In the second fight, it was a split-decision. I think that I won the two fights. I don't know what happened with the judges with the second fight and the split-decision. Everybody watched, and everybody saw that I won the fight."

There's a growing sentiment among Manny's team and legion of fans that want to see Manny silence Juan Manuel Marquez once and for all. In fact, Freddie Roach has stated numerous times that he wants to Manny knockout Marquez.

SkyFlakes Forget the Money involve and all the other B.S happening.. look at their careers and the boxers they fought... they are bout even imo..

Mayweather- judah, diego corrales, arturo gatti, Shane Mosley

Pacman- Barrera, Morales, David Diaz, Clotlley

I think the fight makes sense.. It needs to happen for the fans and also for Boxing in General.. Since what MMA is slowly taking over or has already...

Manny will engage and Mayweather will be Mayweather.. they do mesh in well fighting style wise.. Ofcourse I would like Pacman to win.. Nevertheless, Mayweather is a really smart boxer and a FAST one at that... we all know that manny has amazing cardio.. and maybe he will use what he saw during the Mosley and Moneymay...
