Might not be the oil pump, but I do think it's oil related. Because as the miles go up on the oil, mine will make more noise, and no more noise after an oil change.

0w40 is recommend all year round. I use it even during hot summer without any problems. Most European cars use 0w40 all year round also. I see absolutely no problems using it in a warmer climate.
