Help a Noob. Prep for ProTune & E85!

Hello all. I just purchased an '08 GSR SSS last week. I have owned a lot of fantastic cars in my life, but nothing requiring this much electrical wizardry to get power gains. I am incredibly excited to get to work but I will need the forums help for sure!

The car currently has a Greddy full turbo back exhaust, ETS intercooler piping, an exedy stage 1 clutch and a crappy accessport tune. The car runs and drives fine, has a fair bit of pep, but obviously mostly stock. Currently if you attempt to WOT in 4th or 5th it will cut fuel (or at least I assume that is what it is doing.)

I am looking at getting the car setup to run E85 and then having the car ProTuned. I want the ability to run "flex fuel." I am currently trying to create a shopping list of things I need. Please let me know what else would be required to have or install prior to visiting a tuner.

SHOPPING LIST:

- ETS 3" Intercooler (It appears this will be sufficient for the HP I will be running and limit lag)
- GrimmSpeed EBCS

- MAPerformance E85 Kit (ID1000 and Walbro 255)
- Driven Fab Flex fuel Kit

-POSSIBLE NEEDED ITEMS:
-Test Pipe
-AEM Wideband UEGO

Now, I know I am missing a lot, and I could be incorrect in things I need. Please let me know what else I need. My biggest lack of understanding is with the "Tune" itself and the ECU. I don't know exactly what I need in terms of software/hardware to install software. I see a lot of talk of Tephra... no idea what that is.

I make no claims to know what I am doing in terms of tuning, I am a decent wrench hand and I like doing things properly, but I would never claim to be a tuner. I have read a lot of threads regarding E85 conversions and tuning but it hasn't all come together for me in a cohesive way as to what exactly I need. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you plan on taking the car to a tuner then they should have all of the necessary software.

I would do a quick search first! But Tephra is an open source tuning software. Most Tuners will/should have tuning software. Some lean towards others.

So are you stating the AP is crappy or the tune that was on the EVO? The AP is awesome and does great things, but I would suggest taking it to a tuner that knows the EVO and how it works. The AP will help a tuner understand what and why the EVO is doing what it does. Make sure you do a little more research and understand why the AP is needed. Good luck!
