I hear ya, it's the same way down here..I have gotten it up to 19 and in the 20's but that's when the highway is involved and when I drive like I own one of those smart cars....lol
Commute for me is I-95 from Downtown Miami to Commercial Blvd. Between 70-90MPH is normal in the mornings (6:20- 7:30)... Afternoons (4:30 - 6:30) is 80 MPH down to stop and go depending on the area. I'm averaging 19-21 mpg.

Hah!! Broward is just "Miami North". The whole South Florida Area sucks B.D.D. Everytime I take a road trip and go past Orlando I go through culture shock. Last year I visited Fontana Village in North Carolina. 15 munites after getting there I was looking for the Embassy to see if I could ask for asylum.

I bet I would get another 1 or 2 MPG if i moved up there just from the "good vibes".

I don't think the highway helps all that much. I noticed where the manual says to drive 50mph any time you get the chance.

I think the (5-speed) GSR is geared really short, with no consideration for American highways. At 70mph my GSR is turning well over 3000rpm, and the gas mileage isn't as good as when I'm cruising down a 2-lane country road 45-60mph.

I get my best gas mileage when I'm relaxed and cruising around without having to stop or accelerate.

I finally took my GSR to an autocross yesterday, and after about 12 runs on this nifty 64-second course, my average gas mileage for the day was 16.99mpg.

Of course, this calculation was an afterthought. While I was on the course, I was thinking things like, "WheeeeCRAP THOSE CONES ARE COMING UP FAST!"

When i drove to Maryland from New York a few weeks ago. I got about 280 miles out of a tank of 93 octane. If I remember correctly, i was averagin about 25 mpg.

I average about 15mpg around town.

ahh land of the dragon...I love that place. But i think it would be different to live there. Every weekend place gets crowded from visitors (of which not all can drive properly) plus its a dry county :-( But all in all a very very nice place to visit.
