COBB Stage 3 Kit

Hey!

I was wondering if anyone runs this kit and/or at least the COBB Downpipe?

I was wondering if there’s any good/bads. I had almost everything COBB on my last car and wasnt ever let down.

It’s so hard to find any threads about this. So I figured maybe I’ll ask!

And..

Anyone ever run the Stage 3 map on the accessport with it? How’d that go?

Hope I can get some feedback! ❤️

I'm not sure how to answer your question other than yes, it's fine. Cobb is a good brand but too expensive IMO so the only Cobb mod I have is the accessport. There's many other good brands for the X, like AMS, ETS etc. I ran stage 3 for years and everything was good. You don't need all Cobb parts to run stage 1-3, it can be any brand really.

Don't really need the downpipe for Stage 3 as it has been proven
that downpipe on stock turbo has zero gains.

He's correct, the stock downpipe on the X flows good enough on a stock turbo setup. I have a stock downpipe and still run stage 3. Unless you want an open dump downpipe than I'd say save 500$+labor and keep the oem on unless you go bigger turbo.

I just installed the stage 3 on my FE. AP, Upper and Lower ICP, Turbo back exhaust, LF BPV and the EBCS (all COBB products). I agree it is a bit on the expensive side. So far it’s been good but at moment I seem to be having loss of power at the lower rpm range. At the higher rpm range I can feel the power. I will be conducting a leak test to check whats going on. I pulled off the BPV and did a vacuum test upon releasing the vacuum I observed the piston stay stuck open for approximately 1-2 seconds and which could be the issue. I will post more when I figure it out.

Get a real tune, dont run that off the shelf stage 3 crap. You'll blow your motor.

What’s makes you say that? Based on what Ive read and other people's experiences. It sounds like the Cobb OTS maps are prettty conservative and basic. I understand a Tune is for my car specifically. It’s my DD and I don’t plan on doing any more upgrades.

The stage 3 OTS maps are very conservative and rich so you'll probably trash your plugs sooner than if you went for a protune. I dyno'd at like 310hp/276tq before a protune that added 50ish more HP after.

I had the cobb stage 3 package paired with the OTS tune from Cobb. Then I went protune via the AP and eventually ditched the Ap all together went flex fuel. The feeling of going from AP to E85 was huge - like going from stock to full bolt on tune pro tune huge.

The thing is I was new to turbo cars and tuning in general went i first got the car. Went with cobb because I thought it was "easier" - it came in a "package". The thing is, nothing is easy and there is no one size fit all scenario. If I could have done it again, straight to flex fuel and tune once. Would have save money on the AP, multiple tunes and cobb parts - which can be expensive.
