For a long time in the EVO X forums we were unsure of the exact date of the timing chain revision. We all just knew it was "Sometime in 2011".

The old timing chain part number MN183891 is known to stretch and cause issues in the 2008-2010 model years.

The new timing chain part number 1140A073 was upgraded in 2011 which included a revised chain and few other timing chain system upgrades.

My Evo was built in July/2011 so I did some research to see which chain mine has and came across this Mitsubishi Technical service bulletin.

http://tagore.drivingforceauto.com/s...tsb1213006.pdf

The document states effected vehicles are....

2008−2011 Lancer Evolution built before January 27, 2011
2009−2011 Lancer Ralliart built before January 27, 2011
2009−2011 Lancer Sportback Ralliart built before January 27, 2011

I will be upgrading my cams soon. And I will CONFIRM these findings soon. According to this document I should have the revised chain.

Good info! Did you confirm that you have the revised chain? Mine is 2011 built in August, so hope mine is done too. Will check soon.

An interesting tidbit is....

"An incorrect parameter in the judgment criteria may cause mis−detection of a fault even though the timing chain elongation rate remains within the specified allowance."

Which means they knew that there was a problem with the timing chains, but did not have to issue a recall because the amount of cars with a problem "were within the specified allowance".

So anyway, onto the good stuff

UPDATE:

The document was wrong.

My build date is July 2011, and I had the OLD timing chain. I updated it to the new one for piece of mind.

Maybe someone with a build date later in 2011 can post here, and we can narrow down an EXACT date of timing chain revision.
