SST won't go into D or R

Hi there,
Performing a swap from 5MT to SST, just assembled everything into one piece.
An issue is that TCU in R mode sees shifter position as R, requested demand also in R, but actual is N. In D mode - same story, TCU sees shifter in D, but demand is N and actual is N.
All configs were swapped from SST car, not DTC faults come up, all is totally clear. Teach in is also succesful - no pending or failures. Checked with MUT - forks are moving during teaching in, but "dead" during D or R. External picture is like moving a shifter into any drive mode but the wheels are not spinning.
SST has new clutch assembly, properly re-built, vacuum checked mechatronic and stand tested solenoids - all running fine, except not going into gears in any drive mode.

Is the shifter programmed to the car? I thought I read the shifter had its own logic and you cant just "swap" them out as there it does not rely on a physical deman (like a cable) to shift, but an electronic command from the shifter.

I thought I had read of someone with the same issues, after they had swapped a shifter out after breaking theirs, or some other similar repair.

Can anyone explain what's meant under programming shifter to the car, except VIN writing? One of Mitsu techs have told me that shifter's ecu is so basic, that there is nothing to be learned, except the VIN. The other fellow has told - SST has to be taught about shifter's positions. The question is that my car was originally 5MT and I was not taking parts for the swap from one single car. SST itself from one car, engine's ECM is from mine's, we've just made a tick, that this is an SST car from now on.
Shifter came from Japan, it's VIN has been re-written and all DTC gone.
Have started swapping parts from other cars to trace an issue, first ABS, but nothing has happened ( weird - without DTC, when changing ABS module ). We've also changed mechatronic from a working config, thought that mine TCU is faulty, but same as before - no wheels spinning.

Can someone confirm - does engine ECU ROM matters for running 5MT or SST?
What exactly shift lever on the tranny does? I mean, when we move the shifter, the cable is pulling the lever on the tranny from in ex. P to D, what process is affected by the shift lever? As far as I know, this mech link is only to get tranny hydraulics from P position. I'm running out of ideas///
